VENICE, ITALY TOUR: Gondola Ride, Must-See Landmarks, the Oldest Restaurant, & MORE!

Join us for a full day in Venice, Italy! Exploring historic and famous landmarks, riding a gondola through the canals, & eating at Poste Vecie – Venezia’s oldest restaurant from the 1500s!

Last Week’s Video: Overnight at the Palazzo Abadessa: https://youtu.be/NiB0OkIBIcc

In this week’s video, we tour Venice, Italy for the first time! After a wonderful night at the Palazzo Abadessa, we made our way out into town to do some of the “must see & do” things when in Venice.

Naturally, we kicked things off with a 30 minute gondola tour through the canals of Cannaregio, past the Chiesa di Santa Maria dei Miracoli, through the Grand Canal, and back. An amazing experience, despite its considerably high price (around $80 total); you’re paying for the experience. Something we absolutely recommend.

After a relaxing trip through the canals, we made our way through the meandering alleyways to the Basilica dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo – an amazingly grand basilica completed in the 1430s, and one of Venice’s largest cathedrals.

On our way to lunch at Pizzeria da Alvise, we stopped for a quick walthrough of the Libreria Acqua Alta – a charming/cozy bookshop with a repurposed Gondola and a staircase made of books outside.

Lunch at the Pizzeria da Alvise was perfect – an order of pizza with fresh tomato, basil, mozzarella, and parmesan cheese; chased by an ice cold soda and a liter of the house wine.

After lunch, we made our way back to the hotel to freshen up for the night. We promptly made our way over to the Rialto Bridge – the largest bridge in Venice, and home to a beautiful view of the Grand Canal at sunset.

Even more beautiful at sunset: Piazza San Marco – Venice’s most well-known location and home to the Basilica di San Marco and Palazzo Ducale (which is connected to the nearby prison via the Bridge of Sighs!).

Feeling like we’re living in a movie, we made our way to the nearby Poste Vecie – Venice’s oldest restaurant and former post office. This was an opportunity to experience authentic rustic Venetian cuisine that was unlike any other seafood we’ve ever had.

Truly a memorable day; Venice surprised us. We’re not one for crowds, but it’s easy to look past that when you’re surrounded by such beautiful history. We’re grateful for the opportunity to visit and hope to return someday!

Thank you all for watching, be sure to like, comment & subscribe and we’ll see you next week at the Matterhorn!
