Best Pizza Manila: PizzaExpress SM City North EDSA Lava Pizza. Pizza Express is UK based Italian restaurant chain founded in 1965 by Peter Boizot who on a trip to Italy brought a pizza oven from Naples and a chef from Sicily with the concept of serving high quality Italian comfort food at reasonable prices. Pizza Express was purchased in 2014 by a China based Private Equity firm $1.5 billion and has over 470 restaurants across the United Kingdom and 100 overseas in Europe, Hong Kong, China, India, Indonesia, Singapore, the Middle East and the Philippines.
It was franchised to the Philippines in January 2018 by Charles Paw’s Tasteless Restaurant Group which also operates Bad Bird, Le Petit Soufflé, and Ping Pong Diplomacy which we have previously featured.
Today we visit their newest branch at SM City North EDSA and it is
interesting to note that PizzaExpress is committed to sourcing
locally aside from their tomato sauce which is exclusively made in
Italy for the chain, and some of the gourmet cheeses.
From their menu we would highly recommend their crave worthy Lava Pizza which is elegantly simple with huge chunks of Latteria
Sorrentina burrata cheese and juicy cherry tomatoes on top of a tomato sauce-covered crust. We practically devoured everything on their menu and would also highly recommend the Burrata Caprese, Mushroom Soup, Gamberetti Picante, Kale and Bacon Salad, Calabrese Pizza Romana, Pepperoni Pizza, Fiorentina Pizza, Spaghetti Frutti di Mare, Spaghetti Carbonara and for dessert their tantalizing tiramisu.
