Easter Bread
1 1/4 C Milk
1/2 C Butter
2 Eggs
1/2 C Sugar
1 tsp Vanilla
1/4 tsp Salt
1 pkg Yeast
4 C Flour
1 Egg for the egg wash
Colored Sprinkles
2 Colored Eggs
In a small saucepot heat milk & butter on very low heat. Heat just until the butter melts, this
should not be hot to the touch just warm.
In large bowl beat eggs, sugar, vanilla & salt. Gradually add the milk mixture beating until well
combined. Add the package of yeast and mix until combined.
Add the flour until all incorporated. Dough should be sticky. Add flour to the surface and gently knead until the dough starts to smooth out, if it’s too sticky add more flour. Place in a floured bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Cover with a towel or blanket and keep in a warm place for 1 hour. The dough should double in size.
Throw some flour onto your surface and roll out the dough. Knead a few times, roll into a log approx 12 – 15″ long. Cut into 4 even pieces. Roll each into long ropes, twist two together and braid. Form a wreath. Repeat with the remaining dough. Cover the wreaths and let rise for an additional 45 – 60 minutes.
Place each on a baking sheet with parchment paper. Don’t place both on the same sheet. Brush with egg wash. Cover with sprinkles and place the egg in the center.
Bake @ 350F for 20 minutes or until golden brown. Let sit at least 30 minutes before cutting into.
