After going on a hunt for a traditional Italian easy to make tomate sauce, This great recipe was shared from an Italian Chef. According to my kids: “This is better than the restaurant”. The ingredients for 4 servings are:
· 14 oz Tomato Puree
· 3 Garlic Cloves
· 1 White Onion
· 3 Basil Leaves
· 2 tbsp Olive Oil
· 1 tbsp Salt
· 1/2 tsp Sugar
These are the steps to follow to prepare this recipe:
1. Start to peel and finely chop the onion, then peel and crush the garlic cloves.
2. Pour the olive oil in a pot, and put over low heat.
3. Immediately, pour the chopped onion and the garlic in the oil and stir fry it, making sure to not burn or make our vegetables turn golden.
4. Now add half of the basil leaves to the olive oil and start to pour the tomato puree in the pot too.
5. Cover with a lid, and allow to cook over very low heat for about 10 minutes.
6. Stir the sauce sometimes to prevent it from sticking to the pot.
7. Once 10 minutes have passed, add the remaining basil leaves and add 1 tsp of salt and the sugar.
