Perfectly Crisp Outside, Soft and Chewy Inside
Focaccia can be used as a side to meals or as sandwich bread. Focaccia is an Italian yeast bread, if you love virgin oil then this is a delight. Its a moist but airy crumb sandwiched between thin but crunchy top and bottom crusts, because of the generous amount of olive oil.
Focaccia bread is rich, chewy, and super easy to make. It’s ridiculously delicious. Fragrant bread that is packed with loads of herbs and topped with a salt, onion and olive oil before baking. It’s perfect for feeding a lots of people at a given time and everyone loves it.
Ingredients
1. 450 gm flour
2. 7 gm yeast
3. 12 gm salt
4. 5 gm sugar
5. 35 to 40 ml olive oil
6. 400 ml water
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 375 Fahrenheit degrees.
2. In a bowl put the flour, salt, yeast, sugar and olive oil however if you choose to use any other type oil the taste of the bread will change. The texture will remain the same. I recommend you to use extra virgin olive oil.
3. Add water to the mixture and mix it with your hands. ( just mix it no need to knead it.The ingredients should be mixed thoroughly and dough should be more hydrated. Hydration is the most important factor to get the final result for focaccia. More hydrated dough helps in getting greater volume for proofing).
4. Leave it for 30 to 45 minutes for Proofing (It should double in size).
5. Grease the tray with 4-5 tbsp of Olive oil. (I used a 10 inch by 12 inch baking tray). Transfer the dough into the tray and press it gently. Use your fingers to dimple the dough.
6. Leave it for second proofing for 20 to 30 minutes.
7. Sprinkle the toppings and a good amount of olive oil.
8. Bake in the oven for 30-35 minutes, until golden brown.
9. Remove it from the oven and Let it cool before serving with olive oil or garlic infused oil.
For Toppings
1. Basil/rosemary/thyme/oregano
2. Onion
3. Extra virgin olive oil
4. Parmesan cheese
5. Cherry tomatoes
