1) Simmer the sauce for as long as possible — half an hour minimum. The more simmer time – the tastier the sauce.
2) Brown the meatballs on at least 3 sides before adding the sauce to the meatball pan otherwise the meatballs will break-up.
2½) If the sauce goes dry whilst simmering, add a bit of water and check back regularly.
