Everybody loves pizza! And everybody loves pizza snacks like these delicious homemade pizza rolls or pizza pinwheels. If you are going to have an evening with your friends watching movies or playing board games or just want some savory homemade snacks, these pizza rolls are such a great solution.

Normally, the pizza pinwheels or pizza rolls are made with supermarket puff pastry. True, it is an easy and fast alternative, but you know how puff pastry becomes after a few hours. So, I give you an alternative that would make your pizza rolls last for a few days.

Ingredients

Dough:

all-purpose flour 600g.
salt 6g.
fresh yeast 25g. (or dry yeast 7g.)
warm water 200ml.
sugar 2 teaspoons
extra virgin olive oil 70ml.

Filling:

Margherita Pizza Rolls:

tomato sauce 150-200g.
a handful of grated cheese (I have used a cheese called Scamorza, especially because it melts in the oven; so, try any cheese that melts nicely)
oregano (optional)
extra virgin olive oil 2 tablespoons
a pinch of salt

Basil Pesto Rolls

If you have Basil Pesto, feel free to use it. Otherwise, use any kind of filling you wish, cheese and ham, anchovy and tomato sauce, peperoni and cheese. Leave your imagination free!

Instructions:

1. In a bowl, add the sugar with yeast, then add the warm water. Let to rest for 10 minutes. Then add the olive oil.
2. In a stand mixer or a large bowl, add the flour and salt and combine. Add then the water and yeast mixture and start kneading.
3. Beat the eggs and add them and knead until you get a non-sticky dough.
4. If the dough seems too dry, add some extra olive oil (1 tablespoon at a time).
5. Once ready, let the dough rise for 1 hour in a warm place or until it doubles its volume.
6. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, mix the tomato sauce with olive oil, salt, and oregano and grate some cheese. Combine.
7. Once ready, roll the dough until you get a nice layer of about 1 cm height. Divide it in two if you use different filling. Spread the filling and roll it as in the video (as for cinnamon rolls).
8. Cut the rolls and place them on a tray and leave to rise for the other 30 minutes.
9. Brush them with olive oil and bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes at 180°C.
10. Store them in a food storage container for up to 3 days.

Enjoy!
