Hey Dad’s time to apron up again and hit the kitchen. Here is my take on the old favourite ‘lasagna’
Rich Meat Sauce
Serves 4
Prep time – 20min
Cook time
Meat – 1hr
Lasagna – 45min
White sauce – 20min
Ingredients
2 tablespoons oil
30g butter
500g minced steak
1 large onion, chopped
250g mushrooms, sliced
2 1/2 cups dry red wine
1 beef stock cube
300ml tomato sauce
½ bulb garlic
Good shake of Italian mixed herbs
Lasagna sheets
White sauce – adjust as needed
50g Butter
¼ cup of flour
2 ½ cups milk
Method
Heat oil and butter in large pan, add meat, mash well. Stir eat until dark golden brown, add onion and mushrooms, sauté 5 minutes. Add wine and crumbled stock cube, stir until combined. Return pan in heat, stir until sauce boils and thickens. Add tomato sauce, garlic, Italian herbs; mix well. Reduce heat, simmer, covered 1 hour or until sauce is thick.
White Sauce
Melt butter and mix in flour. Remove from heat and slowly add in the milk. Continuing to stir. Once mixed bring back to the heat and boil. Stir until thickens. Add nutmeg and cheese. Mix off the heat.
Lasagna
Pre heat oven to 160c
Lay sheets, meat sauce. Sheets, white sauce, meat sauce. Repeat then top with cheese
