I’m trying to enjoy the last weeks of winter and one of the most winter-ish flavors is orange flavor. And could you say no to a classic but simply amazing chocolate-orange dessert?
This is a very easy recipe for moist and soft chocolate cupcakes with an orange twist.

Ingredients:

flour 95g.
cocoa powder 40g.
a pinch of salt
baking powder 3/4 teaspoon
sugar 180g.
2 eggs
milk 100ml.
oil (sunflower, coconut, corn) 80ml.
orange zest 1 teaspoon
orange extract

Buttercream

butter (room temperature) 200g.
icing sugar 125g.
orange extract (optional)
orange food coloring (as much as needed)

1. In a bowl, sift the flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder. Add a pinch of salt and the sugar, then combine.
2. In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs, then add the milk, oil and a few drops of orange extract.
3. Pour the liquids into the flour mix and combine. Add a teaspoon of orange zest and combine.
4. Bake the muffins at 175°C for 20 minutes in the preheated oven.
5. Meanwhile, in a stand mixer add the butter and mix for 3-4 minutes at low speed. Then add half of the icing sugar quantity and continue mixing for 3 minutes at low speed.
6. Increase the speed up to a medium and mix until you obtain a light-colored butter and a smoother texture.
7. Add the rest of the icing sugar and keep mixing until you get a nice buttercream, not runny and not hard. Add then the food coloring as much as you need to get a beautiful orange color. Just don’t add too much coloring.
8. Optional: Add a few drops of orange extract.

Enjoy!
