I will say some American companies have changed the original recipe to make it cheaper to produce. Less chocolate. Less milk. Less etc.
Hi, Barry!
Wish I could have msg and autolyzed yeast extract. It makes me super ill and I end up on the toilet for a day or two.
Waiting for Uncle Roger in the comments HAI YAAAAA
Does msg strengthen the flavor receptors on your tongue?
MSG is something I definitely add to every asian dish I make. They taste flat without it. I don't add it to everything else though. Usually just stuff I want to be extra meaty, like a bit in my chili and stuff. Definitely add it to stuff like fried rice though. It will make it way better.
as we all know, more ingredients means worse.
have you ever tried my famous one ingredient pancakes? 100% whole wheat flour for maximum health!
7:10 🤦🏽♂️ ….it's white in the middle… so, I would think it wouldn't be as good as strawberries from the garden.
One of my favorite things about English in other countries is when something is good calling it “nice”
“Oh this cake is nice”
Imma start using that in my everyday language 😂
I seriously love it 🥰
Msg makes me so sick. Every single time I eat anything with msg in it I get dizzy and nauseous. It’s hard to stay away from especially here in the united states
4:01 Wait a minute? Why is that chicken noodle soup able to be eaten with a fork? 4
as a life long eating nutella with a spoon enjoy-er, it has 100 percent changed a few years ago, it is nowhere near as good anymore, i have stopped buying it now.
Fact is MSG is present in many food items naturally, such as fish, tomatoes, cheeses, etc, which makes them flavourful to begin with. It's therefore unlikely that anyone could've been brought up not having tasted MSG at all. Key is to use it in the right kind of food and with the right amount. It doesn't make sense to add MSG to a cheese dish for example.
Fruit in Japan is also about gift giving ! I was invited to have peaches at a friends house , huge honour
My first time here. Lovely content.
$20 for a single strawberry is a hidden IQ test.
I think the MSG test was a little flawed. All the dishes you chose have glutamate heavy ingredients (tomato, cheese, and soy sauce) which will highly diminish the effect of added MSG!
Ann, I kow it's irrelevant to the video but I have to say that your hair is looking gorgeous. Does Dave have a skill we aren't aware of?
MSG really enhances very specific dishes. Eggs, rice, veggies, and beef in my experience.
you have no idea what an impact you have on people – thank you for debunking desinformation about food <3
the msg test genuinely confuses me as someone who's eaten msg my whole life. it really does work that way. it's not a unicorn.
You guys seem to have the best family relationship 🫶
I'm new here: I'm concerned for Dave's taste buds
Great vid. Happy Easter! He is risen!
I typically use msg when actually cooking, not afterwards
Taking a trip to Japan to investigate the strawberries for a video is next level dedication!
I really hate the word umami it’s like a trendy word to say savory
Reveals more about different palate than anything about MSG.
A true test of the MSG would be anchoring on similar palates and/or range of palate sensitivity.
Otherwise you simply verified that one person has no palate sensitivity at that level and others in your test group do.
Realistic statistical variance requires at least n = 1000 to normalize according to the Law of Large Numbers.
And that would be a significant pattern revelation.
When I hear people say things like, "If you can't spell or pronounce an ingredient, you shouldn't be eating it," what I want to tell them is, "Learn how to say it, then! Learn what it is, and what it does!"
(For instance, if a food label says "ascorbic acid," are you going to freak out about how The Government™ is trying to destroy their own population's stomach lining by feeding you acid? Or could you do the tiniest bit of research, which will immediately tell you that's another name for vitamin C?)
But tody, I'm grateful to hear a scientist explaining what people are confused about, and politely helping them understand. Thank you, Ann.
I really love the way the Japanese treat aesthetically perfect fruit, it becomes a premiere item. In the U.S. its only grown to look perfect, and if it doesnt its trashed
Those Trump tariffs…
As we get older, our ability to taste gets duller so it makes sense the older guy…I am probably older than him…can't taste the difference like the younger guys.
incredibly smooth ad transition, well done
Always cook msg into the food😅It makes a big difference🙈 We use msg all the time😁
absolute bs, do not mislead us with the fact that legal labeling requirements have changed over the years to say that the recipe for Nutella hasn't changed, IT HAS ABSOLUTELY CHANGED. The recipe for Chips Ahoy cookies have changed, drastically. Oreo cookies have changed. Mcdonalds french fries literally switched from beef tallow frying to vegetable oil frying. SO MANY THINGS has gotten worse since covid.
Omg these boys are growing up
Shame Australia doesn't have strawberry research. We have such bland mass produced fruit here…..
Wow. A rare self debunk. That has to be a first for Anne, right?
I don’t care how great a strawberry is. It’s not worth $20
after how much MSG has been villanized I feel like this was such a respectful way to talk about it
The thing with the strawberries is that store bought is always going to be weirdly firm and flavorless. Home grown strawberries seem to be way more flavorful and sweet. Same thing with tomatoes.
Dave’s palate is so good, I’m so shocked he didn’t taste the msg
as someone who always have food with msg in it, i sometimes told my mom to not put it because i dont like it
Im sorry Dave, but i still love you brother.
Testing MSG in a dish already high in glutamates reduces sensitivity and makes it a weak model for isolating MSG’s effect.
Next time, try it in a dish that isn't rich in tomato sauces and cheese.
It makes sense that the boys tasted MSG much easier than their dad, since he's a generation older.
I can't believe people are buying a single strawberry for $20! I thought it was going to be a package of them, but for just one is highway robbery. Except for rich people, I suppose.
Interesting and helpful bit on food labels! Also, now I want nutella. I do actually have one made with monkfruit instead of sugar, so it's safe(r) for me =)
Thank you so much for explaining ingredients lists. People are usually making mountains out of molehills. And when problems do happen, aren't noticing the real problems in the mountain of information they didn't read..
