  1. with respect, dude is not describing 'italian food'. He's describing 'Italian supermarket, chain restaurant and low-grade fast food'. Most people in the UK and US would probably be pretty surprised by the diversity and range of taste if they sat down in an authentic first generation Italian place. Add to that, a proper Italian place even tends to do the common denominator hits this guy describes way better too – there is a reason dominoes had to quit Italy
