Last month I visited the Petra Winery as part of a trip to Tuscany. This striking winery lies in the beautiful Val di Cornia and was a very impressive place to visit. The region lies to the south of Maremma and the winery sits on a hillside facing the coast and out to the island of Elba – In this video I attempt to capture something of the beauty of the setting. The striking, architect-designed winery fits harmoniously into its surrounding landscape and is well worth a visit.
I very much enjoyed the wines I tasted here, they are all labelled as IGT Toscana. The range starts with the Hebo, a blend of Sangiovese with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The second wine tasted was a lively, elegant Merlot called Querceagobbe and the range is completed by a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc that is simply called Petra.
