Da Gianni Restaurant is tucked away on Princes Ave – and if you step inside, you’ll find a proper Italian restaurant that’s well worth a try. It’s decorated with rustic wood, soft lighting, red-and-white tablecloths, a small bar lined with wine, and even a piano tucked into the corner – it has a really nice traditional neighbourhood Italian feel.
The new menu is filled with classic Italian favourites, from seafood and pasta to pizza and steak – and even traditional desserts. We started with garlic king prawns, grilled halloumi on creamy hummus with roasted Mediterranean vegetables, and a classic prawn cocktail. The burrata wrapped in fried pizza dough was a real standout – cut into it and the soft, creamy centre spills out, it was so good!
For mains, we tried a rich baked lasagne layered with beef and béchamel, a seafood risotto packed with flavour that I especially loved, and a tomato-based seafood pasta. Another highlight was the grilled sirloin tagliata, perfectly cooked and served with roasted potatoes and vegetables.
We also tried two really unique pizzas including a vegetable pizza finished with creamy burrata, before finishing with desserts – smooth cheesecake, classic crème brûlée, and a rich tiramisu.
So if you’re looking for a traditional Italian spot in Hull with a cosy, classic vibe, then give Da Gianni’s a go!
