Paul and other prisoners were delivered to a centurion named Julius and embarked on a ship bound for Italy, despite Paul’s warnings about dangerous sailing conditions. After encountering a severe storm, Paul encouraged the crew and passengers, and advised the centurion and soldiers to stay in the ship to avoid being saved. The group eventually reached land safely, and Paul and his companions were treated kindly by the locals on the island of Melaita. Paul survived a snake bite and healed others on the island before continuing his journey to Rome, where he appeared before Jewish leaders to defend himself against charges. Paul spent two years preaching and teaching about Jesus Christ in his own home in Rome, undeterred by any opposition.
Paul’s Shipwreck Journey to Rome
Paul and other prisoners were delivered to a centurion named Julius and embarked on a ship bound for Italy. Despite Paul’s warnings about dangerous sailing conditions, the centurion and ship’s master decided to continue, eventually encountering a severe storm. After several days of hardship, Paul encouraged the crew and passengers, assuring them that they would survive and be delivered to Rome as God had promised.
Shipwreck Survival and Rescue
Paul advised the centurion and soldiers to stay in the ship to avoid being saved, as they were the only ones who could be saved. The soldiers cut off the ropes of the boat and let it fall off. Paul encouraged everyone to eat, as they had been fasting for 14 days. After eating, they lightened the ship and threw out the wheat into the sea. When it was day, they discovered a creek and tried to push the ship into it. They took up the anchors and committed themselves to the sea, hoisting up the mainsail. The ship ran aground, and the soldiers suggested killing the prisoners to prevent them from escaping. However, the centurion wanted to save the prisoners and ordered those who could swim to get to land first, while the rest used boards and broken pieces of the ship. Everyone safely reached land.
Paul’s Shipwreck and Ministry
Paul and his companions were shipwrecked on the island of Melaita, where they were treated kindly by the locals despite initial suspicion. Paul survived a snake bite by shaking it off into the fire, leading the islanders to believe he was a god. The group stayed with Publius, who hosted them for three days, and Paul healed Publius’ father and others on the island. After three months, they sailed to Syracuse, then to Reghyum and Petuli, where they met brethren who accompanied them to Rome. Upon arrival in Rome, the prisoners were handed over to the captain of the guard, while Paul was allowed to live with a soldier.
Paul’s Defense and Teaching
Paul appeared before the Jewish leaders to defend himself against charges, explaining that he was imprisoned by Romans who found no cause for death. He shared his hope for Israel and discussed the kingdom of God with many who visited his lodging, some believing his message while others did not. Paul continued to preach and teach about Jesus Christ for two years in his own home, undeterred by any opposition.
