I enjoy researching wine, learning the story behind it, and understanding why certain wines resonate with me and others don’t. I have a very specific palate, and I know exactly what I like.
This wine—Emidio Pepe—is special not just because of its full-bodied character, but because of where and how we discovered it. Christy and I love to travel, especially through Italy and France, and we always make a point to get off the beaten path. We avoid tourist areas, eat where the locals eat, and drink the wines that the local community actually prefers.
This was one of those wines.
It was a wine I had to bring home.
After letting it breathe just a bit, the first sip is incredibly expressive—almost dancing on your tongue. It reminds me of Pop Rocks as a kid: not burning, just alive. You’ll taste layers of fruit, depth, and complexity, finishing with a subtle hint of chocolate.
It’s become a favorite at our dinner parties, and while it may be a bit harder to find—you may even need to order it from Italy—it’s absolutely worth seeking out.
If you’ve tried Emidio Pepe, I’d love to hear what you think. And if you do try it, come back and share your experience in the comments.
