During my recent visit to Tuscany I was very impressed to visit the Petra Winery in the Val de Cornia. The region is to the south of Maremma and the winery is located looking towards the coast and out to the island of Elba – it is a beautiful setting. The striking, architect-designed winery fits harmoniously into the surrounding landscape. This eye-catching structure combines form and function.
I really enjoyed the wines I tasted here. The wines are all labelled as IGT Toscana. The range starts with the Hebo, a blend of Sangiovese with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Hebo is followed by a lively, elegant Merlot called Querceagobbe and the range is completed By a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot that is simply called Petra.
