One of the conclusions I've come to, it that.. it was less about the anger emotion and more about Gravitas.
Someone has insulted your honor and now you must show society that you have avenged your honor and therefore preserving your place in society.
If you were considered dishonorable or even if your reputation was not pristine.. people would not do business with you. They would not want to associate with you, or allow you to be in a position of power. Therefore, protecting your honor was paramount.
That, and not emotion, would sustain your determination for revenge for a slight for months and many miles.
