Sicily is supposed to be the land of The Godfather, ancient ruins, and soulful nonnas, but for me, it becomes the setting of a spectacular nervous breakdown fueled by cheap Negronis and profound professional shame. We attempt to capture the “authentic” island life, only to be subjected to a humiliating, staged fishing expedition where frozen, dead octopuses are thrown into the sea for my benefit. It is a journey that spirals into a “Dead Man Walking” scenario, where I eat magnificent food I can barely remember and navigate a culture of hustle that leaves me questioning the very nature of travel television.
