Been living in Finland for a while and I completely agree, the pizza is delicious. Some additional facts: The pizzeria chain is "koti pizza" (koti=home) and they have some very cool, innovative pizza recipes along with the classics. Initially, after the 2008 competition, they got several (not so polite) requests from Italian ministry to change the name of the pizza, but they didn't budge 😅. Only after Berlusconi passed away in 2023, as a sign of respect for the deceased, Koti pizza renamed the famous pizza to just "poro", simply meaning reindeer in English.
Well it would be unrelaistic if an international contest had always the same nation winning….cause I am Italian and in Finland they don’t grow wheat for flour, tomato nor they make mozzarella or olive oil…. So maybe it was mister Gennaro that moved to lapland for a better lifestyle and opened a pizza place, I wouldn’t call it a Finnish pizza

I had a pizza in Helsinki in 1986, I still remember it. Unlike anything I ever had at home in Chicago. It had shrimp and some veggies, delicious.
