I got to go behind the counter with Chris Zucchero, owner of Mr. Beef Chicago — the legendary Italian beef stand you may recognize from a famous TV series 👀

Chris shares the history of the shop, starting in 1979 when his father bought it, and shows me exactly how they’ve been cooking Italian beef the same way for over 40 years. From making gravy to slicing beef, they’re still serving nearly 1,000 sandwiches a day.

This is real deal Chicago Beef, and the family values from the joint shine through in their customer service and their iconic sandwiches!

This is Episode 1 of United States of Plates! Drop a comment and let me know what city or restaurant you want me to check out next.

  1. stupid ass food review shows just talk about a bunch of bullshit no one cares about then spends 30 seconds eating the food with no review. donny is an idiot

  2. Damn, that Alfa Romeo Milano sign is SICK. First car I had, had constant problems but I loved that thing.

  3. I’m still wondering how they keep the sandwiches warm with all the snow ❄️ in that place.. sheesh 🤣

  4. Donny – right off the bat, the intro felt unnatural. I think you walked too fast AND spoke in a rushed tone. Get to your zen place before a take and be calm.

  5. When you go into a place with a owner like that it’s never bad to highlight the guy who’s been making the sandwich since the owner was 11 years old

  6. Mr. Beef is the bomb. We drove three days to get there to stop for lunch on our way to a bike race. What we didn't do, is savagely attack the sandwich like we had never eaten before. We were respectful of the other diners, the families and the staff, for the love and care they took into making our sandwich. Time for all of these food bloggers to be called out on their manners. Thanks for showing us what we already knew was family, classic and definitely timeless.

  7. I haven't had Mr Beef in 25 years. They were one of the best sangwiches in the city. That owner is like watching a bad comedy show…WTF??????

  8. How much of the profits does Mr 70s Glasses snort? So discombobulated off the flake he doesn't even know how many sammiches they sell daily…OK then.
