I got to go behind the counter with Chris Zucchero, owner of Mr. Beef Chicago — the legendary Italian beef stand you may recognize from a famous TV series 👀
Chris shares the history of the shop, starting in 1979 when his father bought it, and shows me exactly how they’ve been cooking Italian beef the same way for over 40 years. From making gravy to slicing beef, they’re still serving nearly 1,000 sandwiches a day.

Mr. Beef is the bomb. We drove three days to get there to stop for lunch on our way to a bike race. What we didn't do, is savagely attack the sandwich like we had never eaten before. We were respectful of the other diners, the families and the staff, for the love and care they took into making our sandwich. Time for all of these food bloggers to be called out on their manners. Thanks for showing us what we already knew was family, classic and definitely timeless.
