When most people (myself included) think about the Italian Alps, a few things are likely to come to mind: incredible natural beauty, and sports.

But what about the food?

In this week’s video, we travel to the stunning Dolomite mountain range to see what tasty treats are hiding in the hills. We definitely found some interesting stuff to eat, but is it even Italian food?

  2. I recently moved to the swiss canton Valais with my girlfriend and that was the best decision ever. The alps are a melting pot of cultures and a culture on itself, regardless of the country they belong to. A truly natural and cultural gem!

    per Eva: concordo pienamente con te, lo strudel che avete mangiato non e´ quello originale. in val di Non e piu facile trovarlo fatto con la pasta matta che segue la ricetta originale. C'e' anche la variante con la pasta frolla speciale che si trova spesso in Alto Adige. Assolutamente da provare anche quello che e' buonissimo!!

  4. Being a local who lives in the Dolomiti's area makes me feel so lucky and proud. How can i not be, after all you've now shown to the world?
    On the negative side, the Dolomites are suffering the overtourism these years. So many hit and run tourists and also wannabe pilots speeding up rally style the mountain roads like the places You visited, adding on air and sound pollution (yesterday on the newspapers too!). The climate change is already taking dents on those same rocks you've shown, adding the pollution and the crowds… The Dolomiti are a delicate ecosystem. If who reads this is planning a trip, be kind, respectful of those places (DON'T wear flipflops!!!) and if possible, plan a longer stay. You won't be disappointed.
    (Not so fun fact: should You be a flipflops lover and having an accident up there, we do have a way to help you. Aiut Alpin Dolomites, with the helicopter. A 15.000 euro flight cost just to come up there and save your a__. Not jokeing, look it up on google!)
    Anyway, wonderful video (ok, i'm not totally objective because of where i live – here), and i'm sorry if you didn't make it in time up for lunch in that rifugio. There too, sometimes, it takes a helicopter to bring up food for the tourists. If not, many car trips up and down the road! That's why the kitchen closes outside meal times. Love the video. I said that already.

  5. That was a very beautiful video. Lovely scenery! And indeed, borders and cultures often don't coincide withing Europe. Many areas have been ruled by other nations which have left their mark. For me, that is one of the things that make Europe so interesting.

    Speck can actually be gotten at least all the way up to the Netherlands, where I live. Only we call it 'spek' without the 'c'. We also have it smoked and sometimes with some spices or herbs. It's often a bit fattier than in the south of Europe, but it also depends on the cut of meat. And your notion about bacon is also not that far off. They can all be interchanged in most recipes. You might get a slight difference in 'tone', but that can actually be quite nice.

    I was also wondering if you could do a video on the area around Trieste. That is also a not very well covered area in general and has been under different rule in the past.

  6. It's funny– I was thinking, "that looks like yak country", and a second later you showed us the yaks. Absolutely gorgeous scenery.

  7. Keep in mind that rifugi are not meant to be touristic, not on the super technological comfortable ways people are used too.

    They become so to adapt, but their origin is "a shelter in the mountains", made for travellers, hikers, sellers crossing borders and even soldiers during war.

    They are sometimes just shelters, no food, no services, but most of them have a bed and food service.

    Just don't expect every refuge to be a restaurant, because it's not.

  8. I love Trentino/Alto Adige. I visited my cousin who lives there. He was a commander of the Carabinieri military police stationed in that region.❤🇮🇹❤️
