Welcome back to my house renovation in Italy and Corinaldo in Le Marche. My old property needed new plumbing and a new septic tank. I decided to buy a plastic septic tank so that I am able to lift and DIY fit it. I hire a digger to create the drainage run off for the grey and black water. I also shape where my outside kitchen with a log burning Italian pizza oven will be built.
The lifestyle and balance of renovating a house in Italy shines through in this video. The rewards of the hard work is showing and the space to relax just gets better. Sunsets and aperetivi are magical moments in Italy and I enjoy catching up with the Sforza family in Corinaldo.
I hope you enjoy this one. There is a special thank you for all those that watch my videos through and of course to all of you that are so kind to tip me on ‘buy me a coffee / wine’ link. I will get back into the light hearted Italian wine reviews as soon as I can.
Thank you for watching. 😊

Errr, that septic tank looks very small mate, treble the size at least would be better if you are thinking of living there full time. For a holiday home it might be ok…. maybe. Or has it got some sort of super duper tech that allows it to be much smaller? Also be careful putting bricks under, unless it's got specific, reinforced pads designed for that purpose. When its full, weight pressing on the bricks could damage the structure.
Love the shaded work area ❤
You should fill it with water before you have a rain storm and the tank will float, from experience
Hi RIch, you've made my Friday night once again, thank you. The way your putting the video's together is getting better week by week. I sit and have a beer watching after a long week in work and relax watching all your exploits putting your plans into place. It's something for me to look forward to, so keep up the good work buddy 👍
Hi Rich – am not sure you realise how funny but human you are on video. Very relatable!!! 😊. Don’t give up we are all depending on you to show us the way . The videos are great. X
Great spot you have, so envious but am too old now to do that work.
With all the beauracracy around building/renos in NZ its refreshing to see DIY still exists for the bigger work. Great job 👍
When I see you have posted a new video I literally say , yay ! X
Richard, your frustration dance was the best! You work so hard and you are so talented. Your hard work is paying off. Well Done! Bravo..
Hello Richard!! Thank you for this new video. Lots of work to film and edit in addition to all the good work you do at the house. We appreciate it every time! Cheers!
Your videos are a true inspiration to make a change in your life and stick to it. Thank you!
Love the video, I feel the same way about hoses, they drive me crazy lol.
Also from New Zealand & have been watching since your first episode. Going to be in Le Marche region in August, haven’t been to this region before, staying in Mondavio so looking forward to it. After seeing your videos decided we have to see it.
Gee, us Kiwi's get everywhere. Loving the videos. Great mahi.
Nice one Rich! Nother' gr8 vid. Gr8 outcome to the tank. Will be a gr8 solution to essential service. Wow! on the view of the night sky. Awesome wine and nibbles with your friends at the end. Your getting really good at this , I enjoyed it, cheers (next, please)
So many highs and some lows in creating your dream, but fully by your side from Australia through the wins and frustrations. I can identify with the foot stomping when fatigue and obstacles take on more life than they deserve. Thank you for your honest and candid videos. You're a favourite. Enjoy the downtime with wine and friends.😊
Qualified personal trainer here- make sure you warm up before doing these tasks, do some bodyweight exercises and concentrate and treat the yard work like a workout. Engage your core (pull belly button to spine) and move like you would at the gym. Increase your protein and eat nutritious meals, also keep your carbs up the night before for the next day's activities (utilise your carbonara lol). Most importantly rest. Hola from Australia 🇦🇺
I'm actually very interested in what you're doing with the old barn area & other 'less cultivated' areas.
IMO they are what defines a property & the owner's desire to get it right
Great job, Richard !!
Love your work
Your water hose dance was great. Will try it next time my water hose tries to kill me. Bravissimo!
Thanks!
Whilst you have a lot of important renovation jobs keeping you very busy for now, if you're keen on having a nice garden in the forseeable future i'd think about setting up a large dedicated compost pile now (maybe use some of the old corrugated iron roofing for temporary construction), and dump all the strimming material etc in it, and then in a few years time you'll have a lovely free supply of top quality organic material to use when required. A bit of effort now, but will pay you back handsomely in the future.
Yep. That happens w the dang hose. Then it’ll have kinks😂😅.
Such moaning and groaning, I watch to be interested and learn , not to watch minor problems with a hose , plan ,plan, and then plan again,
Hey Rich love your work looks beautiful there. Here in Australia the sewer line is laid in with a slope of 1:60 optimum for solids to float on bye 😂
A bed of sand over the gravel pre levelled might be worth a shot next time😂😅 Also wondering if it should be back filled with sand to counter seasonal expansion/compaction of the soil?..
Hey Rich
Maybe you could do a live feed sometime and ask questions regarding suggestions on how to do some of the jobs you're not sure about. Just by looking at the comments there are several viewers with different trade experience and I am sure we'd love to share that with you. next time grade the aggregate in the bottom of the hole using a tamping device a straight edge and a level and you have a level base for the tank. No need for the bricks !
Great video, great job and great fun! Bravo Richard, you are doing so well 👏🏻😎
So good that you're able to install the septic tank yourself, with a little digger help. Professionals charge a fortune! 💸
I expect that returning to the UK, is like a holiday! 🤣😉
Great work and the end result is going to be amazing. You have the right attitude to make it happen 👍
Hey Richard,
Thanks for another light hearted easy to watch video!
You’re so relatable and funny, your frustration dance made me chuckle.
So nice to see you taking time out and having a drink with friends. 🍸
I hate to be "that guy" Richard, BUT I recommend using two 45's with at least a 1 foot section between them to make a smoother transition into the turn. If you absolutely have to, use a long turn 90 with a clean out. Just trying to avoid problems for you in the future mate.
I’d probably just put a small-ish deck on top of the septic tank (once it’s covered of course)
Hide the access covers and also assure noone walk or even worse parks a car on it or something.
You still have the hole open to create 4 corners for foundations for a strudy deck. 🤷♂️
But with the kitchen it will be awesome. Also wonderful job on the cleanup… keeping the junk at bay it key!
