On the "everyone stank in history" tidbit: This is false. There is an excellent video from Bernadette Banner with a guest on that people may not have necessarily fully bathed everyday, they did indeed wash everyday. The baths that we think of in the "way back when" times were actually more for the upper echelons of society, since they had the money/servants to fully bathe. Same with the fact that lower classes didn't necessarily have pure white clothes or brightly colored clothes because of how they washed clothes at the time.

to add to their point about pirates…. there was one pirate, well renowed, whom had their heart held by one lady. Black Sam Bellamy. He only got into piracy to acquire enough money to convince his loves family that he was worthy to marry their daughter. Sadly, after acquiring his fortune, he set sail to return to his love and was caught in a hurricane and died in a shipwreck on shore before reaching his love.

Okay I really gotta call objection on the discussion of historical people always smelling bad. They knew about hygiene, they just didn't have the same access to large amounts of temperature-controlled water in which to submerge their bodies like we do now. Some did occasionally take baths in tubs, but wiping/scrubbing down with a washcloth and clean water was a more practical way to go about it daily. The way they wore clothing in layers prioritized undergarments against the skin to protect the outer garments from body odor & secretions, so those would be what they washed most often. (This is a heavily shortened & simplified explanation, there are entire fashion history channels that go way more in depth & detail from which I learned these things, most likely in this case Bernadette Banner.)
Idk about the flower stuffed in a lady's cleavage that Amanda's talking about, but I imagine it was more along the lines of functioning like perfume while also doubling as a cute accessory. An element of horniness was probably also present.
