Italians do a lot of things differently—some might even seem a little weird. But after living here, I’ve realized these habits actually make life better. From how they eat to how they take time off, these five simple Italian habits might just change the way you live. Whether it’s embracing the slow life, making food a daily ritual, or actually taking time to unplug, Italians have mastered the art of enjoying the little things. And trust me, once you start living this way, it’s hard to go back.

20 years of Italy travel advice in 39 minutes 🇮🇹 https://youtu.be/ZUIaM0EJCtU
I'm an Italian American and am very American, but some of these Italian traits are nestled in my DNA. Food and family are so important to me. And so is moving at a slower pace. Etc.
We are what we eat. If you eat crap… 😅
Love they way of living.
Italiani……………..Thanks Gregor you made me remember how beautiful it is to be Italian. What you say with such emphasis and enthusiasm is in our DNA for us it is normal but we do not realize it. Suddenly an American arrives and says things that for us are obvious but that gives us back the pride of being what we are. Italians.
Italian born and raised, and I always hated those "sunday family lunches". Luckily my family is very small, so we never did that kind of things, but if we did, I'd surely find a way to be elsewhere 😁
Very similar attitude towards food, family and walking in France. This isn't surprising given the Italian influence over the centuries. In France, we gather at the table to rave about the meal, then we talk about a memorable meal enjoyed while on vacation or some delicacy purchased at the market. Nobody talks about work, investments or money. That's taboo. Sunday lunch with the family goes well into the evening. Meals were sacrosanct with my parents to eat, recharge and reconnect growing up – we never ate in front of a TV.
When we get explained from the priest about the meaning of the religious wedding, he told us about from where the love of a couple and then of the family, is spread the most: preparing the meal and then having lunch all together. About slow life, at least here in Milan, I shall say that's not that slow, at all…
I 100% agree with your advice to push. Ask for more time off work, all they can do is say no. I have taken multiple 3 week and 4 week trips to Italy (and beyond) and it was the best thing I could do for my sanity to make it through the other 11 months LOL Recently ended up taking early retirement because my job of 20 years was inflexible about remote work.
This is the way we lived as children in Cuba and as teenagers in Miami. Mia Nonna e Nonno, on my mother’s side, instilled in us their way of life from Italy. I remember the slow paced lunches on Sunday, eating does wonderful Italian dishes prepared by Nonna and the famiglia eating and conversing together.
As an italian i don't manage have 1 month holiday.
I take various weekend free to go visiting other city, seaside, go to a concert in a far other place to stay some days. Then my real holiday is a 5 days away in september in a far region as sardinia, puglia or sicily (i'm from tuscany)
I prefare many little stops
We don't have weird abits, it's everyone else Who act wrong!
man, you are fully right, basically on everything… but Italy is a variety of cultures, habits and also style of life… if you live in the north… as Milano, for instance.. then you will realize how different are the things…we are the biggest business city in the Country…and we pay the price in terms of speed… our life is two or three times faster than the rest of the Country…( I would say, unfortunately), but despite of that we are basically proud of it.. therefore.. believe me.. if you should feel nostalgic about stress life…. make a jump in Milano and you will see…😊
If every florentine loved Florence as much as you do we could have an even more beautifull city, thank you from the deep of my hart.
Not exact, dolce far niente. Many work hard, and run in trafic…but stop if possible when possible.
Recently we do others little weird things. Like slap american faces like yours even though you've lived here for 20 years. Time to go back to the American garbage you call home of the braves? Hit the road Greg….
Dolce far niente = latin otium
You said it right: the only limit is you! You decide if you want more family or more privacy and so for all the rest. But if you enjoy slow food, a warm family, long quiet walks, long holidays, art, music, deeply rooted culture and tradition, Italy is your place!
Avere solo un'ora per mangiare mi mette un nervoso assurdo
There are no tomatoes in the ragù though 😂
ah like Hollywooooood ……… romantic ….ooooo wonderful , idyllic…….preception is not reality…………..
