Ingredients:

Pastry
3 3/4 cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
4 tablespoons butter
1 egg
1 egg yolk
1/2 cup white wine

Filling
1 ring dried figs (12 to 14 ounces)
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup candied fruits
1/2 cup toasted almonds
1/2 cup toasted hazelnuts
4 ounces semisweet chocolate
1 cup honey

Optional but recommended:
1 tablespoon grated orange peel
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves

Lemon Icing
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 cup confectioners’ sugar
Sprinkles, such as colorful nonpareils

  9. My Grandmama from Abruzzi made these every Christmas. Iโ€™m so happy to see you make these! Her recipe was slightly different in that she used walnuts, no chocolate, cooked the filling down, and made them in long tube shapes. Makes a wonderful jam! Wonderful memories! Buon Natale๐ŸŽ„
