Great stuff. Good to know. Going there April 2025. Cheers from NYC!!
Thanks. Very useful! Just got back from Turkey
Interestingly, "döner," "shawarma," and "gyro" are all basically the same word, with "shawarma" the Arabic pronunciation for "çevırme," a Turkish verb meaning "to rotate". In my opinion, learning 100 basic words in Turkish is essential, but for foods, there is a lot of overlap in the Balkans, Turkey, and Levant. Afiyet olsun!
In a 2022 trip to Turkey, I purchased a tourist welcome plan from Türkcell. In 2023, I purchased an eSIM from Airalo for a fraction of the price. I installed my eSIM before leaving home, and activated it between deplaning and immigration control, rather than standing at the Türkcell counter at the airport for 20 minutes.
I will never again use a physical SIM. Don't worry about not having a local phone number, as almost everybody in Turkey seems to use WhatsApp, which can be used for text messages, voice calls, and even video calls.
I am in Istanbul rn I am cooked
These are the Americans who think there is no other language but English.
Very convenient, when I arrived to Istanbul on my connection flight I had time to go to some places and walk around, problem was that nobody spoke English! So just prepare yourselves for this. check before hand how to pay for the subway, a map of how to get around because if you need someone for instructions it will be difficult.
Lonely planet guide to Istanbul and also the Turkish phrase book an essential. Came in handy for myself when I visited. Also this channel and others I watched and so grateful as got the most out of my trip. 😊
People using an ‘indoor voice’ ❤❤❤
Although Istanbul is a historically important country, it is doubtful whether it will be a good place for tourists because of the many thieves, pickpockets and fraudsters everywhere. Scammer are everywhere, your wallet, purse, mobile phone, travel packages, and handbags need to be carefully watched. scamme start from airport exchange, Especially when withdrawing money from ATMs or (taxi & ather) giving money for anything, be very careful when taking your wallet out because they will take the money or your mobile phone and run away.I spoke to three people at the hotel where I was staying and they were cheated in some way and some left the room hating the trip.
Omg when my family was in Istanbul my sister started bargaining with some poor dude in a scar shop. 😭😭I was mortified 😂 luckily the owner was super friendly about it and even played along for a bit til he caved and lowered the price. 🤦🏼♀️I felt so bad 😂
It would be lovely if you could do a video for disabled people, like myself, visiting Istanbul. I am finding it very difficult as I have been told I will not be allowed to take my folding (with a seat for the time in the Q) mobility stroller into any mosque (& I can’t take my shoes off or on without sitting down) or Topkapi palace. I have dreamed so long of visiting but it has turned into a nightmare 😢
Döner is german food😅
I just came across your video and i have a question. I’m planning a trip to Turkye in April of 2025 April 4 to 12 , is that a good time visit?
Biggest mistake anybody makes in Istanbul is arriving.
I would say use Uber. The rates are fair and they were mostly able to message me in English.
I have the felling we drop 50 IQ points whenever we become tourists
@beryistanbultips
Please don’t use personal pronouns to address things. Such as “call them doner” please “call it doner” 😂😂😂
❌️ Don't buy a sim at the airport.
❌️ Don't exchange money at the airport.
❗️ If you ride metro from the airport, you will be buying a metro card, but note that for internal city travel, you will have to buy another type of metro card.
Extremely pinpoint facts & figures provided. Thanks Mam. Love from India ❤
