I’m back in London today and in particular Knightsbridge which is home to one of the best Italian restaurants in the country known as Osteria Romana. Can you believe it’s only the second time that I’ve reviewed Italian food on the channel? Lets give it a go!

it is so good to see you again today where are we we’ve come to nightsbridge when you take a look over here it’s park close sw1 now I’m going for an Italian today I’ve already done one I went to piches obviously that was a little bit inexpensive but this one today is up there where are we going we’re going to aeria Romana got to say I’ve looked at the ratings on this restaurant and it is really up there it’s really highly regarded now I’ve done the introduction here because nor disturb other people who are eating down there got to say it looks absolutely stunning on the outside really looking forward to this one as always let’s give it a go come on [Music] here we are I have got to say this is stunning if you take a look outside here it is completely covered they’re artificial but uh artificial roses all the way around but inside are my Lord that is beautiful beautiful seating are straighten as you walk through the door then to the left hand side another beautiful seating area got this elesco dining out here as well so two four six tables outside let’s hope it doesn’t rain I’m taking a look at the menu here now one of the interesting things it says here all their produce is delivered directly from markets from Rome on a weekly basis um and they say this guarantees their authenticity so hey it’s pretty cool taking a look through here you got the uh lady shouting in the background uh you have the starters antiy pastas as I turn the page over you got main courses side dishes all the rest it take a look at that me uh what shall I go for I’m going to go for the Roman style Noy with uh no actually I’m not I tell you why because that comes with black black truffle sauce I’m I’m going to give that a Miss just in case the black truffle sauce is too strong with a mushroom flavor so what I’m going to do I’m going to go for the hand sliced Aras porchetta pork belly and that’s £2 and then as you look down here on the pastas what pasta should I go for I’m going to go for the ratoni with oxel Ragu and Pino cheese definitely got that pronunciation wrong that’s £2 now I’ve got to tell you one came in uh it was the bread on the table they actually had fresh basle and they cut the Basel up put it there in front yeah just two seconds there and then put the olive all in there I think that’s a real good touch by the way that’s really good okay if I can order there please I’ll have the pork belly uh starter please and can I also have the share that oh we are yeah and then the rigoni with oxil r would you recommend that yeah so that’s all ordered What I’ve Done bit naughty so they have the Basel as I said earlier on they chop it up and then they put it in here okay they put the olive oil in that there and obviously I’ll put that back on the table bit nauy of me and then you have the bread and you dip it in so one thing i’ going to say that menu is very pricey but you’ve got to bear in mind where we are located we are in nightsbridge again one of the most top rated Italian restaurants in the whole of London so it is going to be a little bit on the pricey side but it’s all down to Quality as well so let’s uh get that this is new to me never seen this been done before so olive oil should be really infused with the flavor of the Basel and it is I do like that bread that is Sensational bread well what is Sensational as well is the simplicity that is simplistic it’s there it’s done took the waer all of 10 seconds to put it together but again a little bit of drama but the flavors yeah okay see you when the starter arrives impressed I’m actually very impressed do like the tablecloth as well all just looks very professional let’s pop that there yeah I’m looking forward to this and I am really looking forward to it beautiful restaurant [Music] beautiful my petta pork belly is arrived now first things first look at the size of the portion here I’m a little bit amazed cuz that’s definitely enough for two people I’m just going to pull it down yeah there loads underneath again if you take a look at it it looks really juicy so let’s grab that piece let’s grab the piece underneath let’s grab the big piece was expecting that it comes with uh lemon but I’m not going to do that first of all first of all I want to try it but again portion wise that is actually taken me a little bit by surprise because I wasn’t expecting that size portion let’s try it see the flavors now the pork itself is warm I want to try it here with some of the fat W you what want I got to say that is outrageous it is so tender he’s got hints there of garlic a little bit of orange but most of all is bursting and I do mean bursting with flavor you can really tell that it’s classy pork and it’s been cooked outrageously good I mean that’s just not good that’s outrageously good obviously you got the stream of fat going through big gim that makes that so moist oh that’s probably the best pork I’ve ever had in my life it genuinely is that’s just that has really surprised me totally blow me away I’m going to try it with some lemon obviously that’s there for a reason just on my hands there Lots let’s take a little bit of that fat off because there’s a bit too much fat on that what does the lemon do now the lemon has really alen the taste buds so again you got the the citrus from the lemon and it’s opened up all the taste buds and now the pork flavor is even more intense that is Sensational it’s simplistic I mean it doesn’t get more simplistic than this does it you know you’ve just got the pork and you got the lemon nothing else so what sign through here is the pure quality again simplistic food but pure quality right I’m going to have to share this because there’s an awful lot here and I also don’t want it to go cold either you know I a little bit amazed to be honest how can I be amazed when something so simple amazes me is what’s in my mouth it’s oh damn I’m just my glands are going absolutely mad here all around I am stunned absolutely [Music] stunned my vaton is a right take a look here first of all presentation that’s really hot not dangerously hot that is dangerously hot presentation I love I absolutely adore it coming out in the pan obviously they’ve cooked it in the pan in the kitchen and it’s come straight out to you I like that what I also like is the Aromas coming off that is just wrong that is just so wrong the flavor and the smell garlic coming coming up oh I can’t wait I’m just going to dive in here I’m not no ceremony no nothing take a look through though hang on before I do do do do do do before I do that take a look at the sauce underneath the richness of oxtail sauce let’s get some cheese with that as well [Music] the pasta God okay pasta’s cooked as you would expect absolutely perfectly but the flavor from the oxtail I’ve got to show you this that flavor is intense obviously with oxtail it has got a real intense intense richness but it’s got some oxil there I want to see how well that’s being brazed my God definitely no smoking and again my taste bu is going absolutely mad and then you got the cheese on top and that cheese is bringing us saltiness so you have the richness of the sauce then you have the pasta and again as I said the pasta they are big clumps of pasta roton is a lot bigger than penet so again you got the richness coming through and you got something there to to bite on and then you have the sauce and then the saltiness of the um cheese I’m I’m I’m I can’t tell you I’m in absolute heaven now I’ve been to Italy and if you’ll serve this in Italy you’ll be overjoyed and I can tell you this is authentic cooking this is proper Italian cooking to a superb level the ratings here are massive and do you know why because everything I’ve had again let not get carried away is that the most complicated dish to put together no it’s not again you have the oxtail you have the pasta you have the cheese so three main ingredients however they not just three main ingredients the pasture is cooked to Perfection the s to the cheese okay brings all up but it’s the richness it’s the richness it’s in-depth flavor of the um Ragu Sauce and it just just light lightens it’s actually quite a heavy dish it it’s not a light dish but it really really gets the taste buds going absolutely crazy so all in all yeah if I was in Italy I’ll be super proud I’ll be super happy eating this I’m in nights bridge I’m even happier mainly cuz I haven’t got to travel and come back any have just wish the weather was a little bit better but yeah all in all yeah the other thing is this is going to be very very filling but I don’t mind I have to say I’m a little bit flop but you know me I’ll give it a go I’m going to get a dessert and not only I’m going to get a dessert I’ve got a dessert or is it a coffee cheers homemade tiasu take a look at that I love that presentation again simplistic but very eye-catching and I do mean eye-catching now I want to give a little shout out here to my new best friends to to here and Florence thank you very much they’re really really fantastic company I just want to give a thumbs up to them two new subscribers but lovely people now there only one way to do it you got to dive in and I want you to take a closeup as I dive in here look oh my Lord look at this can I off you Mas Pony in there you got the oh my Lord you got the cocoa on top now I just want to I just want to be a bit indulgent I think that’s way too much Gary but I’m going to just dive in oh my good G that is so good that you get further down it’s creamy it’s Rich it’s it’s obviously egg yolks then but it’s the creaminess of the sauce that is I’m just you know I’m getting so carried away I was getting I was going to attempt to put all that in my mouth Indulgence that’s the word absolute Indulgence I’m going to carry on I’m going to finish up jez I can’t do that I am so lucky have to say I didn’t like that struggled a little bit I loved it that was Exquisite no other word for it Exquisite now what I’m going to do I’m going to get the pill I’m going go take a little one drop there and give you my final thoughts everything there I had today was quality but it was that as well yeah let’s get the bill first though it is stunning out here High Park corner what do I think of aeria Romana I tell you what what a beautiful restaurant service oh there absolutely top service everything from the start from the very beginning when you sat down and he cut the Basel and he put the um olive oil in there mixed it all up and you had the bread and all different types of bread and you dipped it in the bread was fantastic that just set the scene that was just the beginning of the adventure and the adventure then took off I thought the starter I’m not going to go through everything line by line you’ve seen it I thought the starter was very good the main was excellent and dessert homemade that was excellent as well now this is a treat okay let’s not kid ourselves this is a tree you’re not going to come here every week know because it is so expensive and talking of which my bill total6 £56 for a lunch you got to bear in mind the starter was enough for two you had the bread there as well obviously that’s enough for two but we’re talking huge quality here we’re talking location we’re talking a treat would I recommend it wholeheartedly and the Mark I’m going to give it is n and a half out of 10 it was that good it was really that good it was up there amongst the best restaurants I’ve ever been into the quality on the plate was outrageous normally when I spend that kind of money I think oh you know this was worth it this was really worth it if you could like And subscribe to the channel you know I always appreciate that I’ve got a big smile on my face the sun’s out I’ve had a fantastic lunch what more could you ask for until next time bye-bye

I am of Italian descent, and I nearly wept as you dined. My Grandmother was a gifted cook, indeed a chef for wealthy Parisian family before WWII when she had to leave. Every dish was simply presented of the very best ingredients, exquisitely done with a deft hand. She did everything but desserts. We had fruit in season, ice cream in winter. Oh, but you brought back a flood of memories. Mille Grazia.
Another great review Gary! I highly recommend pasyunk avenue in london, a unique Philadelphia experience with tasty cheese steaks 😋
Your descriptions of the flavors have evolved to an art form. I felt as if I was tasting that porchetta along with you!
The Italians genuinely understand the secret to good food: keeping things simple, using quality ingredients, and putting time and care into the small stuff. The meal looked delightful, and, as always, it was a delight to watch your review.
Gary! Good porchetta is a gift from God!!!
Hi, Gary. You have more enthusiasm about food in your big toe than most chefs I've worked/I work with. I'm guessing that pork was porchetta; I have yet to try to try it or cook it; I've heard it's amazing. A huge, slow-cooked ragu simmered gently is a great meal 'solution' for me; I make it on a grand scale on my day off so we've got lots to eat throughout the week – plus it make the house smell nice (plus you can't smell my dirty chef socks anymore 😂) Whatever is left, we freeze down in batches for later use.
Top post as always, pal 👍
Luv Si & Claire 😊
Food looked amazing, slightly odd eating out of the pan though imo. I liked it coming out in the pan, but I would have asked for a plate, no doubt they would have brought one if asked lol classy venue
Looks absolutely delicious love the pork belly starter … to be honest Gary for a birthday treats or any occasion the prices isn’t to bad ..enjoy your meal sir …..
Visited Italy a few times with my wife (last time in 2019) and the food is fantastic but eating out can be really expensive. Allowing for inflation, this London restaurant was probably cheaper than most we visited and by no means did we eat at the most expensive. Bologna was especially pricey although we did find one place which resembled a transport cafe but the food was still delicious. I think may have only offered 2-3 dishes (there was no menu, we didn't speak Italian and the staff didn't speak English) but there was a large lasagne just out of the oven, I pointed to that and the lady served me up a very healthy portion for about 5 euros.
So love your stuff
I am just drooling alone at the pork. My good local pal Hayley swears by a squeeze of lemon on many dishes to just take it to a new level. She isn't wrong! An essential ingredient, not just for gin!
Literally 1 mm of olive oil for the bread. I'd walk out on the spot. Loved the video though mate
♡ London, you’re my cup of tea..! ᥫ᭡
Good review. Focused on all the major elements as usual. Italian food tends to be very simple, but simplicity done well. Even making a simple cheese and tomato Neopolitan pizza is an art and when done well will hands down beat any more sophisticated one. Keep up the entertaining. I love the way Gary goes to proper restaurants and not just take aways and back street dives. Makes him a unique food reviewer.
Am barred from comment !
Never crticize your videos, but on this one I have to tell you the number of people walking in the background took away the enjoyment of what would have been as usual an excellent review. Just sayin, you could have chosen a better table for your review.
Ostia Romana is a nice Italian restaurant – quality food but is it reasonable in cost? Regardless of the quality, I don't think I would pay £55 for all of that. Maybe half the price then I would say I truly enjoyed my meal. I'll give it 7 out of 10. Not a fan of Italian food. It's a lot like French and Japanese food – they focus too much on simplicity and presentation – there is no taste whatsoever in the food. It may be fresh delivered from the farm to your plate, not arguing about this . Everyone seems cloned saying it's a great place but £55 , that's a lot of money to pay. Quality simply does not do it for me.
T o me the bread full of holes is half a piece and tastes no better !
Compared to the Harrod's fish 'n' chips, it seems like a great value.
He😊arty ox tails, looks good,, not many people are keen on eating oxtails, my father made great ox tail soup, with loads of of different vegetables, and his secret spice and Herb mix, always separated tail bone so I know how you enjoyed the Italian version, a week ago went to local market, saw price of a pound of oxtails was $13/pd ! Bought a couple of pounds of beef liver at just 1.59/pd, when properly cooked is the most heartyest tasting meat with onions and buttered mash of course with a load of veggies, Gary try to find a cafe that offers liver and onions, an under rated dish. Italian restaurants are always good, it is a treat at 50 pds, my father's oxtail secret ingredient a couple squits of Heinz ketchup hip hip tally ho!
Great review, Gary! Food looks sublime and an easy 10.
In all honesty, i pay just a little less for a 3 course meal abd coffee in a Gastropub in Hertfordshire.
Gary Charlie in Sydney here 56 pounds less than 112 dollars no way you get that quality here for that money in centre of city come to Sydney for some reviews 😀
Hmm, are you sure it’s not Mario eats and all this business about not liking mushrooms is just a ruse and you have gone to this Italian just to get another power boost to keep up this amazing schedule 😜
I have found nearly the same meal in a retail park. And it’s maybe £10 less😮. Al be heading to Knightsbridge from now on. Well done gary it would be my weekly 🫡
