A day in Abruzzo among Cheese, Wine & Locals

Jayne & Arthur from USA visiting Abruzzo for their first time.
They decided to venture the unbeaten path of Italy, stopping by Abruzzo and Experience BellaVita. From Francavilla, close to Pescara, they were transferred to the province of Teramo.

On this winter day, we learned how to make cheese and ricotta at a family-owned organic farm on the hills of Teramo. We made cow cheese & ricotta, tasted the freshly made cheeses, home-produced delicatessens & organic wine. The owner Giacomo took us to see the sheep and the Abruzzo’s shepherd dogs, their goats and cows.

Along the way, we stopped to the beautiful & ancient town of Campli where we visited one of the 3 the ‘Scala Santa’ (Holy stairs) in the world.

In the afternoon, we proceeded with a visit to a historic winery on the hills of Teramo where they produce the iconic Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Colline Teramane DOCG.
The tasting included:
– their sparkling wine, Metodo Classico from Abruzzo,
– 2 vintages of Trebbiano,
– a Pecorino wine,
– a Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo (Rose’),
– a current vintage of red Montepulciano DOC,
– their Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Riserva DOCG from 2012
– and their fortified wine made with Montepulciano d’Abruzzo grapes.
A total of 8 wines & selection of extra virgin olive oils, cheeses & cured meats.
Pure pleasure and a fantastic way to spend a day in Abruzzo, discovering the hidden culinary paths of the region with the local guide Marino from Experience BellaVita.
