You’re watching glass half full from Los Angeles magazine the show that makes wine more accessible please welcome your host Allison hlip hi hi Alison hlip here I’m from wines on laa and I’m so excited to take you through tonight’s pairing um cuz it’s a classic and it’s a celebration
Okay I am pairing Jones’s cavara the rotoni cavara with the bonzano hosteria and the reason this is so exciting is because Jones Is Back Baby Jones is back and if you’re like Alison what are you talking about what is Jones why is Jones back let’s let’s go through
A little history Jones has been this awesome Italian American comfort food place in West Hollywood it’s been around for 30 years that’s right it opened in 1994 so they’re going to be celebrating their 30th anniversary in this city this year uh and it is known for their you know
Like they have the classic red leather booths they have the really dark lighting so everyone looks sexy AF and you go in there it has had celebrities Galore in there over the years uh but what has been most interesting is that three months ago it’s right on the
Corner of Santa Monica and Formosa and three months ago there was a two-car accident where everyone’s okay thankfully but right at that corner that pushed the cars through the East entrance of Jones thankfully no one was hurt no diners no patrons no anything no none none of the employees uh but Jones
Had to close for 3 months to do some massive reconstruction there what’s been so awesome is that the the the local area really rallied behind them they did fundraisers for them there was even a GoFundMe to help out the employees who could work during those three months now
They have just reopened this past weekend and they are available for pickup y’all and so that is what I got oh I’m so excited look at this I got the cabara oh it’s so good it’s so good I have a dog in my Shir hello Monty this is Monty oh you
Can’t see anymore uh we have a friend’s dog here if you can see his little nose sticking up there’s a little doggo who keeps smelling my food you’re not getting any Monte I’m sorry you’re not getting any food now you’re under the table begging me for food it’s not going
To happen I have to have a bite of this before we start oh my God gosh so carora you’re not born Italian like me it’s just a delicious oily garlicky pasta with uh Pudo in there here let me get the little Pudo it’s Pudo and peas and the sauce has an egg mixt
Through too so it’s creamy it’s warm it’s delicious it’s got a lot of fun flavors and we are going to be pairing that today with the bonzano husta very excited about this wine I mean first off can you just not tell it’s already a fun wine in this fun little bottle right so
This is um a blend it is a blend of Pinero and uh Barbara yeah so it is a I mean it’s very very Italian wine it’s from the peon area let’s get this open and uh bonzano is the last name of the wine makers it is three brothers and one of
Their wives they own and run this Winery and I find it very funny CU they say that this wine uh on their website is splendidly quaffable which basically means really drinkable it’s a really drinkable wine and they are not wrong with that now if the name hosteria sounds familiar they actually named this
Wine after you know the classic t Tavern Italian Tavern otera because it this wine is supposed to be all about hospitality and a meeting place for friends which is exactly like Jones Jones is also known for fantastic cocktails but you know what we’re a wine
Shop so we are pairing it with a wine all right there we go this all right so why have we paired it with uh this Barbara oh there’s just so much like lovely red fruit on the nose yep so nice okay so like I said carbonara has a lot of ingredients in it
Which makes it a little difficult to pair with like I said there’s egg in the sauce egg you normally want to pair with champagne uh there’s the there’s the uh Pudo the cooked Pudo that is something that goes really nice with an acidic red there’s also the peino there’s cheese in
The sauce that is something you also want to go with an acidic bread so we chose a high acidity bread which is a Barbara but it’s also light and body you can see this doesn’t look like a super heavy wine CU we don’t have a lot of Hefty
Flavors happening in this oh my gosh I love a simple pasta love love love of simple pasta it’s so great Jones is fantastic they’re a perfect late night place too by the way you can’t they don’t even open till 700 p.m. 700 p.m. they open we couldn’t even order this until 700
P.m. and they don’t do delivery so you got to know that it is worth the drive to go pick up Jones uh but if you’re ever in West Hollywood and you need like a late night meal you’re out at the bars and all a sudden it’s midnight you’re
Like what I’m really crazy is a pizza but like a good pizza that’s what Jones is for or go and pick it up and pair it with a really lovely or Vera I mean just also the botle right this is that cure rated for 33 bucks
It’s a super fun bottle also since it’s such a high acidic and light red this is something that also goes really well with like a shery plate or just cheeses or something simple like that this makes me want to Boogie a little one of the other good parts this is the bread from Jones got to do this dipped in that eggy cream sauce ah now if anyone here is like wait a minute Alison I follow you on social media I know you don’t like eggs listen I like eggs when they’re mixed into other stuff eggs eggs on their own we’ve
All been lied to they’re gross no matter how they’re cooked they’re gross but eggs in a sauce delicious all right so there you go Jones in West Hollywood has reopened Hallelujah it is back make sure you go support it cuz it is a Los Angeles staple uh again I got their Roni
Cabara oh my God this just looks so amazing and I paed it with the bonano postera this is a Barbara blend so the high acidity red wine goes perfect with simple Italian food if you have uh any suggestions or any requests for these kinds of pairings
Please put them in the comments below I love suggesting wines the dog is back wa can you see Monty no you’re just going to have to trust me that there’s a dog down there very key Point too uh and again I’m Alison HP I’m coming to you
