ICON OF THE SEAS REVIEW
In our Icon of the Seas review, we rank this new ship in terms of dining, onboard activities, nightlife, entertainment, and more.
The first thing that surprised us about Icon of the Seas was the layout. Most travelers worry that mega-ships will be too busy and crowded. Luckily, the layout and enhanced neighborhood design dispersed the crowds well.
While most mega-ships have several pools, the 7 pools on Icon of the Seas all had a unique vibe and ambiance. Our favorite was the adults-only Hideaway Pool on deck 15 aft.
Essentially, Royal Caribbean took the typical outdoor area and broke it up into 4 unique neighborhoods. This includes Thrill Island. Along with staple amenities, like a Sports Court and Flowrider, this new neighborhood is home to Category 6, the largest water park at Sea. Yes, for this Icon of the Seas review, I tested out all the slides.
ICON OF THE SEAS RESTAURANTS AND BARS
Icon of the Seas boasts 40 ways to eat and drink. Among our favorite additions is the AquaDome market. This food hall at sea includes 5 different stalls, with one being better than the next. The 24-hour Pearl CafΓ© is home to an upgraded menu of sandwiches, desserts, pastries, and grab-and-go options, making it leaps and bounds better than other cafes in the Royal Caribbean fleet.
There are also fan favorites like the Park CafΓ© and El Loco Fresh, now open later in the evening.
It wouldnβt be a Royal Caribbean cruise without three-course elegant dinners in the main dining room. Cruisers can also eat as much as they want for breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the Windjammer Marketplace.
While there were several new complimentary dining venues, Icon of the Seas has only a few new specialty restaurant offerings. We dined at Chops Grille, Giovanniβs Italian Kitchen, and Izumi Sushi for this cruise review of Icon of the Seas. We also pulled up a chair to try brunch and dinner at the new Pier 7. We tried Izumi in the park, the Trellis Bar, and dessert.
Even though we didnβt have a drink package, we could still make our way to the close to 20 bars on the ship. Among our new favorites were the Rye and Bean, which served espresso-based cocktails, the Hideaway Bar, and the Lemon Post.
Like most Royal Caribbean mega-ships, the entertainment on Icon of the Seas did not disappoint. Make sure to reserve seats ahead of time for all of the shows. These include the Wizard of Oz in the main theater and the Aqua Action diving show in the new Aqua Theater in the Aqua Dome.
There was plenty to do day and night on Icon of the Seas. A variety of music occurred in several venues. The new hotspot on the ship was the Dueling Pianos bar.
While Royal Caribbean enhanced several aspects of the ship, we were surprised that the staterooms received little of an upgrade. These rooms seemed rather bland when compared to the rest of the ship.
Overall, Icon of the Seas was another massive success for Royal Caribbean making it one of the hottest ships to sail on in 2024!

#IconoftheSeas #RoyalCaribbean #Cruise
We’ve sailed on the largest cruise ships inΒ the world from all the major cruise lines soΒ Β a common question we keep getting is howΒ does the new icon of the Seas compared toΒ Β these other ships so we put together thisΒ video to see how the world’s new largestΒ Β
Cruise ship compares to the competitionΒ in terms of dining entertainment nightlifeΒ Β and more with this icon of the SeasΒ Cruise review so let’s Dive [Music] In welcome board Cruisers I’m Don B from eat sleepΒ Cruise where we help you see the world one portΒ Β
At a time now Heidi and I have been on over 75Β cruises and we’ve sailed on the largest cruiseΒ Β ships in the world for all the major cruise linesΒ so not just the mega ships in Royal CaribbeanΒ Β Fleet but the larger ships from Cruise Lines suchΒ as Norwegian Cruise Line Princess Cruises CarnivalΒ Β
Cruises Celebrity Cruises well you get the ideaΒ and in this video we comp compare the brand newΒ Β icon of the Seas to see how that ship Stacks upΒ to the competition and when we first stepped onΒ Β
Board icon of the Seas we quickly realized thatΒ this ship was not just an enhancement of the OasisΒ Β class ships The Vessel does share several layoutΒ features found on the previous record-breakingΒ Β class of ships from Royal Caribbean yet icon ofΒ the Seas has a unique personality all her own andΒ Β
In this review we’ll let you know where icon ofΒ the Seas shine and where we think the cruise lineΒ Β dropped the ball we were on the inaugural CruiseΒ which had about 5,500 passengers which basicallyΒ Β put the ship at Double occupancy and of courseΒ with mega ships the one thing individuals worryΒ Β
About is crowding that’s one big knock we have onΒ the Prima class noran Cruise Line’s newest classΒ Β of Mega ships as the venues are just too smallΒ for the amount of passengers on that particularΒ Β ship and we had similar concerns that icon of theΒ Seas might actually have the same crowding issuesΒ Β
As that other class of ship of course there areΒ bound to be busy areas on any cruise ship butΒ Β icon of the SE disperse the crowds even betterΒ than we imagined of course that might differΒ Β when there are another 1,500 passengers on boardΒ CU a ship can actually hold somewhere over 7,200Β Β
Passengers when all the upper births are filled weΒ suspect there will not be a significant issue likeΒ Β other cruise ships from competitor Brands anotherΒ Improvement icon of the Seas has over other MegaΒ Β ships is the enhanced neighborhood concept withΒ these areas designed to be inhabitable all dayΒ Β
And this really eases some of the pain pointsΒ you might expect on a cruise ship with so manyΒ Β passengers of course Royal cre is the first oneΒ to introduce neighborhoods on the Oasis class andΒ Β there are some other cruise lines that have triedΒ a similar approach having zones on their MegaΒ Β
Ships but icon of the Sea’s neighborhoods provideΒ even more amenities including options for food andΒ Β drinks allowing Cruisers to spend an entire dayΒ in one of the distinct areas of the ship withoutΒ Β having to leave for any any reason given eachΒ of these neighborhoods does have a very distinctΒ Β
Aiiiance and Vibe so Cruisers can gravitateΒ towards whatever neighborhood fits their moodΒ Β on any given day now for us we love to explore theΒ ship so we were all over the place almost everyΒ Β single day now speaking of those neighborhoodsΒ the one neighborhood to get an extensive upgradeΒ Β
Is the pool deck this new cruise ship bow sevenΒ pools all with their own unique Vibe and designΒ Β these seven pools are scattered around the shipΒ but many of them are found on decks 15 16 andΒ Β
17 comprising what you would typically think ofΒ as a pool deck on an oasis class fessel the mostΒ Β popular pool in our sailing at least for adultsΒ was The Hideaway on Deck 15 the Hideway is one ofΒ Β
The eight neighborhoods on icon of the Seas withΒ the entrance from thrill Island on Deck 16 thisΒ Β AF pool area features the first suspended infinityΒ pool at se even though the pool didn’t officiallyΒ Β open most days until either 9 or 10:00 a.m. manyΒ of the sunloungers on the Terrace Sund deck wereΒ Β
Claimed by early morning like any cruise ship theΒ AP is the most desirable location so spending aΒ Β day at Sea with a drink from the Hideway barΒ with some wake views well that makes for aΒ Β pretty relaxing SE day four additional pools openΒ to all Cruisers are located in the center of theΒ Β
Ship in the chill Island neighborhood the cloudΒ 17 pool is on Deck 17 and it’s located for onΒ Β the starboard side and offers plenty of paddedΒ loungers and a small infinity pool the deck 16Β Β swim and tonic was another popular spot and it’sΒ Royal Caribbean’s first swim up bar at Sea and itΒ Β
Does have a specialty menu still we were able toΒ grab drinks one afternoon without much hassle hereΒ Β Cruisers can relax in the pool or one of the inΒ pool loungers which actually this ship has a tonΒ Β
Of there’s also the secluded Cove pool on Deck 15Β for those seeking a little shade once again thisΒ Β infinity pool is surrounded by numerous seatingΒ options in the shade along with some bright andΒ Β funky Furniture lining the port side of this deckΒ other pools include the record-breaking Royal BayΒ Β
Pool given its large footprint two whirlpools andΒ several pool loungers this popular pool never feltΒ Β overwhelmed with Cruisers guess staying in a suiteΒ have access to a private pool in the Grove on DeckΒ Β 18 Ford families with little kids will have theΒ Surfside neighborhood on Deck s all to themselvesΒ Β
After on this deck is the Splash Away Bay whichΒ is designed for kids 6 years or younger it’s aΒ Β popular water feature on many Royal CaribbeanΒ cruise ships and honestly this Splashway BayΒ Β looked exactly like the Splashway Bays you findΒ on the ois class or the freedom class of ships forΒ Β
The adults in the Surfside neighborhood there’sΒ the waterers edge pool which is right behind theΒ Β splash pad this pool offers amazing ause for youΒ to enjoy while you’re little ones enjoy their ownΒ Β water playground finding a spot one of these poolsΒ was never an issue on our saling in fact we wereΒ Β
Really surprised at how many loungers were stillΒ available by noon time on a se de so overall theΒ Β pool deck on icon of the Seas function better thanΒ almost any mega ship we’ve ever sailed on likeΒ Β
Many aspects of icon of the Seas Royal CaribbeanΒ took its typical Sports deck to new heights theΒ Β newly themed thrill Island includes many StaplesΒ found on other ships in the fleet along with someΒ Β first at Sea of course there’s your typical SportsΒ Court suspended above deck 16 this unique designΒ Β
Opens up the after the ship enabling more publicΒ venues and improving passenger flop below the coreΒ Β on the port side is the Lost Dunes mini golf thisΒ intricately them themed mini golf is complimentaryΒ Β
And was open most of the day we gave the course aΒ test match and had a fun afternoon putting aroundΒ Β but we don’t have to mention who won adrenalineΒ Peak is the rock climbing wall on the ship it’s inΒ Β
A different location from The Oasis class actuallyΒ the design and layout of this rock climbing wallΒ Β reminded us more of the quantum class of ships ofΒ course it wouldn’t be a royal caran Cruise ShipΒ Β Without A Flow Rider tucked away on the starboardΒ side the this surf simulator faces inward towardsΒ Β
The ship on most vessels in the fleet the FlowΒ Rider actually is outward facing towards theΒ Β ocean though the highlights of thrill IslandΒ are the two new attractions the Crown’s EdgeΒ Β is Royal kin’s attempt at a ropes course on oneΒ of the ships this upcharge activity is set to aΒ Β
Theme where adventurers need to escape from thrillΒ Island the big draw is when the floor drops fromΒ Β beneath you and you zipline over the edge of theΒ ship while it’s fun other Crews on designs offerΒ Β more intricate courses with more exhilaratingΒ experiences in our opinion for free such as theΒ Β
Ropes course on Norwegian Escape or even honestlyΒ the ropes course on some Carnival Cruise LineΒ Β ships lastly the Crown Jewel of the sports deckΒ is the category 6 Water Park of course I had toΒ Β test out all the slides for this icon of the SeasΒ video review with the cruise line positioning iconΒ Β
As the best of every vacation the complimentaryΒ water park is certainly a direct competitor toΒ Β theme parks on land with five unique attractionsΒ these slides are undoubtedly the best at Sea theyΒ Β have plenty of rideability but for those who don’tΒ want to bother with the water slides thankfullyΒ Β
Category 6 is separate from the pools so CruisersΒ wanting a more relaxing pool day don’t have toΒ Β worry about this attraction unlike other shipsΒ where the water slides are usually right next toΒ Β the other pools on the deck during our cruiseΒ the war slides had small lines but the cruiseΒ Β
Line claims that it can process 1,500 passengersΒ in about an hour so you shouldn’t be waiting allΒ Β day even during summer vacation to experience theΒ best water park at Sea if you’re looking for theΒ Β biggest thrill I suggest you head straight forΒ the frightening Bolt the tallest drop slide atΒ Β
Se Royal kbin boasts that there are over 40 waysΒ to eat and drink on icon of the Seas of courseΒ Β we we made sure to try all the restaurants duringΒ our sailing and if you’re looking for a detailedΒ Β
Look at all the dining check out our video rightΒ here on YouTube where we eat and drink everythingΒ Β on icon of the Seas but we can just give you aΒ little taste of what that video is like in thisΒ Β
Review along with the new Concepts there are manyΒ returning favorites when it comes to Casual eatsΒ Β Lal fresh still serves up TexMex nachos burritosΒ and tacos on the pool deck till around 8:00 p.m.Β Β likewise Park Cafe in Central Park still featuresΒ breakfast sandwiches a bagel bar salad bar andΒ Β
Thankfully for me the Royal Kimi sandwich thisΒ casual restaurant has a new upscale look and feelΒ Β with comfy seating making it more like a trendyΒ Cafe than a cruise ship quick service restaurantΒ Β what’s new is the Park Cafe now offers toas inΒ the evenings like mini meatballs and meat andΒ Β
Cheese plates icon of the seats upgraded it’s 20Β 24hour dining spot to the new Pearl Cafe finallyΒ Β Royal Kuan has significantly improved its menu atΒ the onboard coffee shop the new steak and cheeseΒ Β breakfast sandwich and the barbecue chickenΒ biscuit were vast improvements over the smallΒ Β
Bites typically found at the cafe promon on otherΒ Royal Caribbean ships and while we like this menuΒ Β far better than other Royal cine ships we wouldΒ still probably say that the international cafeΒ Β on princess Cruz’s Royal class of ships is theΒ best 24-hour cafe across the major Cruise LinesΒ Β
Taking a nod from Virgin voyages the Pearl CafeΒ also features new grab and go items so you don’tΒ Β have to wait in line to get something from theΒ pastry case or one of the warm sandwiches youΒ Β
Can grab a pre-made salad fruit cup or sandwichesΒ and just head out for the day the Pearl Cafe stillΒ Β serves Starbuck Coffee which is included in theΒ Royal crey drink package or the Cafe Select CoffeeΒ Β Card the licensed Starbucks location which isΒ actually down one deck in the royal promadeΒ Β
On Deck five is not included in the drink packageΒ not to mention the overall Vibe of PE Cafe is justΒ Β much different than the cafe promad you findΒ on other ships the area is open with FloridaΒ Β ceiling ocean views comfy seating options andΒ plenty of outlets so Cruisers can relax or do aΒ Β
Little work while enjoying some coffee and snacksΒ throughout the day another new dining venue is theΒ Β base camp on Dex 16 some of the quick bites hereΒ at this thrill Island location are complimentaryΒ Β like pretzel bites tater tots or a hot dog butΒ the menu also has upcharge items like the waffleΒ Β
Chicken nuggets for $7 and a shrimp bow bun for $8Β while we did sample those during the 3-day previewΒ Β Cruise we’re not really sure if they’re worthΒ the upcharge but our favorite addition to theΒ Β ding lineup on icon the Seas is the AquadomeΒ Market there are five unique stations thatΒ Β
Are open most of the day starting usually aroundΒ from 10:30 a.m. serving a variety of casual FairΒ Β of course we tested all the small bites here forΒ this icon of the Seas cruise ship review and theyΒ Β were all great we appreciate the perfectly sizedΒ portions and fresh food quality it was tough toΒ Β
Pick our favorite but I was fond of the Euro atΒ feta Mediterranean the ginger beef from GingerΒ Β and the strawberry Nutella crepes and Heidi likedΒ the chicken from Ginger and the mac and cheese asΒ Β well in the Surf Side neighborhood there are twoΒ more casual complimentary dining options the SurfΒ Β
Side eery is a family forward Buffet open forΒ breakfast lunch and dinner there’s a dedicatedΒ Β kids menu and some options for the adults someΒ of the fan favorites include items like lasagnaΒ Β bites and taquitos however of all the dining inΒ the ship we would say this was our least favoriteΒ Β
But you can’t go wrong with a popcorn chicken orΒ a pizza toasty at the nearby Surf Side bites thisΒ Β takeout window also has Burgers hot dogs andΒ the irresistible cinnamon churros this venueΒ Β is open most days until 6:00 p.m. and with a menuΒ like that you might think you’re dining at one ofΒ Β
The Florida theme parks here’s a pro tip grab someΒ soft sered ice cream for the nearby sprinkles andΒ Β top it with a couple cheros trust us of courseΒ it wouldn’t be a Royal Caribbean ship withoutΒ Β the Wier Marketplace the staple Royal Kuan BuffetΒ offers breakfast lunch and dinner every day of theΒ Β
Cruise finally it wouldn’t be a royal crean ShipΒ Without sarentos serving up slices of pizza intoΒ Β their early morning hours and while I’m not reallyΒ a big fan of sento’s pizza I did think the sento’sΒ Β
Pizza here was on par with the sentos pizza youΒ get on any other Royal Caribbean ship so it’sΒ Β not any better but it’s not any worse good thingΒ is they were never ever really long lines RoyalΒ Β
Cribbon has also elevated its beverage programΒ along with all of the new dining icon in the SeasΒ Β has nearly 20 bars including 10 new establishmentsΒ of course we made sure to pop into each venue toΒ Β try at least one signature cocktail thankfully RΒ didn’t change the drink prices on icon the SeasΒ Β
So most specialy cocktails are covered in theΒ rooll Caribbean Deluxe drink package the 1400Β Β Lobby Bar is the new hip watering hole right onΒ the Royal promot this trendy and modern spaceΒ Β serves up cocktails themed after the differentΒ Royal Caribbean ships with the 1400 in honor ofΒ Β
The icon class this bar is the perfect additionΒ to the completely redesigned two-story RoyalΒ Β prominant chill island has four lime and coconutΒ bars including the brand new Frozen bar featuringΒ Β poolside favorites like a Miami Vice of courseΒ the three other locations still shake up favoritesΒ Β
Like the signature lime and coconut drink theΒ first swim up bar in the Royal Caribbean Fleet theΒ Β swimming tonic is a very popular pool bar servingΒ cocktails like the iconic Jin tonic and the lemonΒ Β cello tonic the new Hideaway neighborhood has anΒ upscale outdoor bar too the Hideway bar boast LuxΒ Β
Outdoor furniture and a signature drink menuΒ with new favorites like the oh my God and theΒ Β bay at the beach margaritas and mezcals are on theΒ menu at Cantina fresa on chill Island convenientlyΒ Β found near eloo fresh this bar first debuted onΒ wonder of the Seas and it’s a welcome additionΒ Β
To the bar and lounge lineup here on icon of theΒ Seas Cruisers can also get some liquid coverageΒ Β from the rum base specialy cocktails at the baseΒ camp bar in thrill Island further the new aquadΒ Β doome neighborhood is home to a few new bars tooΒ these include the Overlook Bar with the signatureΒ Β
Overlook Spritz the new Rye in bean coffee barΒ serves up espresso infused cocktails and otherΒ Β coffee drinks the espresso matinis here are aΒ must especially as a pre-show drink while someΒ Β Royal Caribbean ships do have jazz clubs loseΒ Jazz and Blues on Deck 8 in Central Park is anΒ Β
Entirely reimagined space with a sultry smoothΒ Vibe and Specialty cocktails like a hurricaneΒ Β and Jazzy SZ it’s a relaxing departure from otherΒ bars on the ship Cruisers also have the option ofΒ Β enjoying enjoying the music inside the venue orΒ outdoors in the park or they can enjoy the scenicΒ Β
Surroundings of Central Park from bubbles theΒ new Champagne Bar takeout window there’s alsoΒ Β the spruce up trellis bar this venue offers theΒ standard beverage menu as well as a top as menuΒ Β that’s available for an upcharge the family canΒ grab a drink at the lemon POS on Deck 7 togetherΒ Β
All the drinks here feature flavor lemonade withΒ a wide selection of adult concoctions like theΒ Β shade thrower along with zero proof offerings forΒ the little ones inside the loyal Royal CruisersΒ Β will find a typical lineup bars and lounges thoughΒ some are in new locations the scoa bar overlooksΒ Β
The two-story promon on Deck six starboard sideΒ recently Royal crean updated this classic barsΒ Β menu luckily Heidi’s favorite lavender daquiriΒ is still available along with the new toastedΒ Β marshmallow oldfashioned to go along with theΒ nightly live piano music likewise boleros remainsΒ Β
On the Royal prominade but it’s now now found onΒ Deck six across from the scoter bar the blers menuΒ Β has received a minor update as well the point andΒ feather is a newly updated English pub this venueΒ Β features a variety of als’s and loggers someΒ new cocktails and the same great live musicΒ Β
Venues like Spotlight karaoke the Music Hall andΒ even the new dueling posos all feature the sameΒ Β musically inspired menu however each one has aΒ signature cocktail to enjoy during the nightlyΒ Β performances overall we liked the variety ofΒ venues and drink menus while some bars wereΒ Β
More popular than others this was primarily due toΒ the live entertainment in those particular venuesΒ Β but even when the venues were busy we never waitedΒ too long to get a drink from the bar or one of theΒ Β
Roaming servers along with distinct cocktails manyΒ of icon of the Sea’s venues are home to live musicΒ Β and performances in the evenings bolos featuresΒ Latin dance music and alternates between a DuoΒ Β or a band Phoenix rocked out the music hall withΒ classic rock tribute shows this venue was alsoΒ Β
Home to a DJ and some parties and other activitiesΒ later in the evening on select nights Kevin philliΒ Β was the pub acoustic performer with a ScottishΒ accent and lineup of typical hits and singleΒ Β alongs this was a Rowdy good time most nights theΒ Pub’s new open design incorporates more promadΒ Β
Eating without interfering with the passenger flowΒ in this of and busy area brand new to the cruiseΒ Β line is a dueling Pian bar while Royal kman spentΒ only a few minutes thinking about what to callΒ Β this venue they obviously did their homework thisΒ Lounge quickly became the most popular nighttimeΒ Β
Spot the venue is open to the promade so thoseΒ without seats can still peek in and enjoy the showΒ Β Cruisers will want to arrive early to get a seatΒ so they can sing along with Tim and Sarah duringΒ Β
One of their several sets throughout the cruise ifΒ you’re a night owl you’ll probably have a betterΒ Β shot at getting a seat during one of the 11:00Β p.m. or midnight shows but the weight is worthΒ Β it as both performers kept the crowd cring allΒ night despite the addition of duing pianos theΒ Β
Scab bar is still home to classic piano musicΒ and DC offered relatively standard RenditionsΒ Β each evening while new we were surprised thatΒ the jazz club was never all that busy even thoughΒ Β it had some great cocktails and live band musicΒ out in Central Park there were often live musicΒ Β
In the evenings as well with either stringsΒ or an acoustic guitar these soothing TunesΒ Β provide a lovely backdrop as Cruisers enjoyedΒ the surroundings with a drink and good companyΒ Β the attic has been newly relocated to the secondΒ floor of the royal prominade and featured comedyΒ Β
Shows on most nights of the cruise while RoyalΒ Caribbean typically has two comedians this specialΒ Β sailing featured three including the fan favoriteΒ and one of our personal favorites Simeon kulesΒ Β reservations can be made pre- Cruise or once onΒ board however we actually went standby later inΒ Β
The cruise and had no issues getting to one of theΒ shows of course A Royal Caribbean cruise wouldn’tΒ Β be complete without parties and parades along withΒ embarcation day midnight balloon drop there’s alsoΒ Β the ships aoy parade as well as a family-friendlyΒ and adult oriented hush silent party among otherΒ Β
Events for us Royal Caribbean offers the bestΒ entertainment in in the cruise industry the cruiseΒ Β line has pushed the envelope offering BroadwayΒ Productions and unique entertainment stages whileΒ Β not deing any new venues on icon of the Seas RoyalΒ Gan has enhanced several of its one-of-the-kindΒ Β
Entertainment spaces the most significant changeΒ to the icon of the Seas is relocating the aquaΒ Β theater to the top of the ship on Deck 15 forwardΒ in the new aquad dome neighborhood while we wereΒ Β skeptical of this change after experiencing theΒ ship we think it better utilizes the space plusΒ Β
There’s no longer a need to cancel shows due toΒ rain for now there is one featured productionΒ Β Aqua action this intense diving and aqua ShowΒ attempts to replicate an action movie utilizingΒ Β state-of-the-art pools lifts and robots a secondΒ show pirates vers mermaids will debut at a laterΒ Β
Date during our sailing Aqua action was only aΒ little over half done still it featured amazingΒ Β performances by high divers synchronized swimmersΒ dancers and aerial artists the digitally enhancedΒ Β Dome added a layer of Storytelling and immersionΒ into this fast-paced meticulously choreographedΒ Β
Show it certainly cannot be missed likewise TheΒ Studio B ice rank found on several rollerman shipsΒ Β has been transformed into the new absolute zeroΒ it does take a little searching to find this venueΒ Β all the way out on Deck six Cruisers must walkΒ through a retail shop and then playmaker sportsΒ Β
Bar an arcade to find the entrance to absoluteΒ zero absolute zero is now the largest ice rink atΒ Β Sea and features a new circular design with betterΒ sight lines this venue is home to two signatureΒ Β shows Starburst Elemental Beauty brings theΒ basic elements of the universe to life through anΒ Β
Intricate mix of ice dancing skating and specialΒ effects there’s also a familyfriendly Once UponΒ Β a Time the king’s royal ball which will happenΒ on one C day of your cruise in the main theaterΒ Β there is The Wizard of Oz this Broadway adaptationΒ of the classic story perfectly fits this familyΒ Β
Focused cruise ship the state-of-the-art theaterΒ brings all aspects of the original to life from aΒ Β tornado whipping through the theater to flyingΒ monkeys and strolls down the yellow brick roadΒ Β this is one of the best full-scale ProductionsΒ at Sea the the cruise line is still preparing forΒ Β
Its second the to show showband thus during ourΒ cruise there were a variety of headliner acts manyΒ Β of these entertainers will be familiar to regularΒ Royal Cruisers like Mosaic overall we thoroughlyΒ Β enjoyed all the entertainment and recommendΒ Cruisers Reserve available live entertainmentΒ Β
Pre cruise we believe these spectacles willΒ Amaze you even if you’re not a show personΒ Β it’s not a surprise that the largest Cru ship inΒ the world offers a variety of activities most ofΒ Β what you can find on the cruise Compass theΒ ship’s daily list of activities is typical ofΒ Β
Any Cruise Line there were a variety of triviaΒ and competitions throughout the day from generalΒ Β trivia to sports trivia music geography moviesΒ these sessions happen each day of the cruiseΒ Β various additions of games like Name That TuneΒ or finish that lyric game show occur throughoutΒ Β
The week as well themes range from one hit hitΒ wonders to ’90s hits country and everything inΒ Β between many of these competitions were familyΒ focused and often occurred in dueling posos orΒ Β the spotlight karaoke across the various venuesΒ there were other activities and staff light eventsΒ Β
And absolute zero there were sessions of openΒ skating all Cruisers need is socks and long pantsΒ Β and the cruise line provides the rest there’s alsoΒ laser tag usually on C days the rise of PoseidonΒ Β an inflatable course is the biggest weav everΒ see organized scavenger hunts riddle challengesΒ Β
And puzzles also made up the list of regularΒ activities throughout the week of course there’sΒ Β also the seaside Carousel and an arcade found inΒ the Surfside neighborhood and while the carouselΒ Β is free of course those arcade games will cost youΒ money on the outdoor decks along with open PlayΒ Β
There were volleyball competitions basketball freeΒ throw challenges pickle ball table tennis and BagoΒ Β among other sports events yes there were also poolΒ deck favorites including the sexy legs competitionΒ Β and the belly flop contest occurring in the RoyalΒ Bay pool Heidi and I love game shows on cruisesΒ Β
But while several were offered they were usuallyΒ at off times for instance the very popular LoveΒ Β and Marriage game show occurred at 3 p.m. on aΒ C Day others including Family Feud and majorityΒ Β rules were game shows we could not catch due toΒ Showtime conflicts we did attend the Liars clubΒ Β
And the always a good time crazy Quest tryingΒ to get everything done in one week is nearlyΒ Β impossible so much going on around the ship soΒ we often missed many of these game shows or otherΒ Β
Activities in lie of other events but if you’reΒ looking just relax there are plenty of areas to doΒ Β so as well perhaps the most beautiful SP icon ofΒ the Seas is the new Overlook All the Way ForwardΒ Β
On Deck 15 this POS space features 220Β° views andΒ plenty of comfy furniture including the first ofΒ Β their kind Pods at Sea is a great place to chillΒ with a book or a drink anytime of day or dare IΒ Β
Say a great place to check your email and if youΒ have to do a little work the main dining room isΒ Β one area Royal Caribbean didn’t change much onΒ icon of the seats the three-story main diningΒ Β
Room is on decks 3 through five aft from layout toΒ decor and menu the dining room felt like any RoyalΒ Β Caribbean men mega ship the dining room featuredΒ daily breakfast and lunch on two of the C days aΒ Β
Relatively new offering in the main dining roomΒ is a C Day brunch on the first C day which forΒ Β our cruise was day two the menu Isn’t just a mixΒ of lunch and breakfast it offers unique dishesΒ Β
That Cruisers can enjoy from 8:30 a.m. to noonΒ for dinner the main dining room did offer theΒ Β new themed menus since our last Royal CaribbeanΒ cruise these menus have been slightly tweaked forΒ Β instance the cheese plate is back on the menu weΒ ate at the MDR a total of three evenings duringΒ Β
The first FAL night there was a special menuΒ which was a slightly altered version of theΒ Β taste of France menu we also died at the MDR onΒ The Taste of Italy and the Bon vage nights overallΒ Β
Food quality is what we have come to expect fromΒ the Royal Caribbean main dining room my New YorkΒ Β strip was cooked medium rare and well seasoned itΒ was actually one of the best stakes in any mainΒ Β
Dining room likewise I enjoyed the braz Lamb onΒ the final night and Heidi always enjoys the turkeyΒ Β dinner which is also on the last night of theΒ cruise the food was always delivered well platedΒ Β and at the appropriate temperatures even thoughΒ we had my time dining we did get the same weightΒ Β
Staff on those three evenings and the service fromΒ our waitress Lena was on point as well we were inΒ Β and out of dinner in about 75 minutes each eveningΒ enjoying all three courses however there’s one newΒ Β restriction the cruise line still allows guestsΒ to order multiple starters Entre and desserts butΒ Β
Servers can only deliver one dish at a time soΒ when I wanted the mushroom RTO Entre alongsideΒ Β my steak I couldn’t have them on the table at theΒ same time and this just seemed kind of silly to meΒ Β
Honestly pre Cruise options for traditional diningΒ were 5:30 p.m. or 80000 p.m. simp since neitherΒ Β of those times worked for us we selected my timeΒ dining and then made reservations for most nightsΒ Β at the same time 6:45 p.m. during our cruise theΒ main dining room seemed relatively empty perhapsΒ Β
With all the new complimentary venues open laterΒ more passengers decided to skip the MDR we’re aΒ Β prime example as Heidi’s adamant that we alwaysΒ go to the main dining room yet on this trip weΒ Β actually had two casual dinners as there was justΒ so much to try now never mind all the specialtyΒ Β
Restaurants across the two cruises on icon of theΒ Seas we spent 10 nights on board and dined at fourΒ Β specialty restaurants while several new diningΒ Concepts exist for complimentary venues thereΒ Β are only a couple new specialty restaurants amongΒ the new specialty dining venues we tried was PierΒ Β
7 located on Deck s in the Surfside neighborhoodΒ this casual specialty restaurant serves brunchΒ Β on C days and dinner every night we tried brunchΒ and dinner and the latter was our clear favoriteΒ Β at night some standouts were the lettuce wrapsΒ Korean fried chicken and the Buddha bowl also theΒ Β
Caramel waffle was a delectable ending to the mealΒ this art venue is priced from $16 to $18 per dishΒ Β the dinner menu Was A Step Above included diningΒ however the breakfast items like the pancakes andΒ Β eggs your way look like something you would getΒ get on other cruise lines for free plus CruisersΒ Β
On The Limited Dining Plan only receive a $20Β credit when choosing to eat at this restaurantΒ Β though one positive note is that kids under 12Β eat free off the menu during the 3-day previewΒ Β cruise we dined at chops Grill the signatureΒ Steak House located in Central Park did notΒ Β
Disappoint my crab cake was crispy with a moistΒ Center for an entree I opted for the new iconicΒ Β Huts the wagu fle was tender and cooked to theΒ ideal medium rare temperature though these CutsΒ Β do come at an upch charge in addition to theΒ standard cover charge at Shops Grill then onΒ Β
The first evening of the inaugural cruise we dinedΒ with some friends at giovan’s Italian Kitchen thisΒ Β venue is now found on the second level of theΒ royal promade on icon of the Seas with someΒ Β extra people we didn’t feel bashful orderingΒ several appetizers the pizza hair is always aΒ Β
Safe betat with a thin handcrafted crust and justΒ a right comb combination of toppings it is LeapsΒ Β and Bounds better than sento’s pizza for startersΒ the stroli and the meatball were also favoritesΒ Β at our table for Entre Heidi with the chickenΒ parmesan and I did the awesome boo which wereΒ Β
Similar to our previous dining experiences at thisΒ venue then it was on to dessert the Go bananas isΒ Β a dessert Str buoi combining Nutella and bananasΒ there was also the canoli which was filled with aΒ Β sweet regata reminiscent of similar offerings inΒ Boston North End finally for specialty dining weΒ Β
Dined with a friend at a Zumi Sushi towards theΒ end of our weeklong cruise we are fans of AsianΒ Β Cuisine and the mix of small and large platesΒ that we shared here were on point the friedΒ Β
Rice dumplings and udon noodles served up the PanΒ Asian flavors we’ve come to expect from this RoyalΒ Β Caribbean staple specialty restaurant I alsoΒ tried the spicy crispy tuna roll but it wasn’tΒ Β one of my favorite Sushi offerings next time IΒ would probably go with something different otherΒ Β
Specialty restaurants on icon the Seas includeΒ playmaker sports bar the Empire Supper Club aumiΒ Β Habachi and hooked Seafood the Empire Supper ClubΒ features an elevated menu paired with cocktailsΒ Β and live music to set menu so we opted not toΒ dine here given Heidi has a picky pallet not toΒ Β
Mention there were a few snack locations withΒ upcharge items as well and of course we wantedΒ Β to test them out for you too besides besidesΒ base camp which we already mentioned there’sΒ Β a zomi in the park and the deserted milkshakeΒ bar of the two we preferred isumi in the parkΒ Β
The takeout window serves Sushi and some deliciousΒ bubble cones which were way better desserts thanΒ Β the milkshakes at deserted now it is true theΒ milkshakes at deserted are pretty InstagramΒ Β worthy but they’re also pretty pricey we would optΒ to spend our money on the bubble cone from isumiΒ Β
Me over the milkshakes here during both cruises weΒ stayed in traditional balcony cabins for the sevenΒ Β night cruise we stayed in Cabin 14258 while iconΒ of the Seas debuted a new cabin type for RoyalΒ Β Caribbean the infinite balcony there are stillΒ regular Ocean View balcony State rooms on thisΒ Β
Ship our midship state room was closer to theΒ AFT elev Bank on the ship’s port side given allΒ Β the enhancements and trendy design of the publicΒ venues we were actually pretty surprised by theΒ Β state room while royal king added more luxuriousΒ finishes and updates to most aspects of the shipΒ Β
The state rooms received only some minor updatesΒ for the most part the cabin’s layout and functionΒ Β were identical to other ships in the fleetΒ immediately upon entering our room the bathroomΒ Β was to the right on the midship wall the bathroomsΒ were redesigned offering a new rectangular showerΒ Β
With glass door and seat this updated layout wasΒ a nice change from the tubular showers found onΒ Β most of the other Royal Caribbean vessels theΒ shower also utilize the inward-facing hingesΒ Β found on Excel class ships in the carnival FleetΒ and the Prima class on NCL ships similar to SisterΒ Β
Brand Celebrity Cruises Edge class the cabins andΒ icon of the Seas maximizes interior space too theΒ Β miror hides the safe and additional shelves forΒ storage which are in addition to the closet andΒ Β desk drawers likewise our closet was tucked aroundΒ the corner from the bathroom it had a closed barΒ Β
With some metal storage Cubbies below we useΒ these to store shoes but really wish they wereΒ Β on a sliding track of some sort when it comes toΒ closet setup in storage the quantum class is stillΒ Β our favorite layout for Royal Caribbean ships theΒ desk and sofa followed with the bed next to ourΒ Β
Balcony once again the desk and sofa were prettyΒ typical one nice added feature in the cabins onΒ Β icon of the Seas were the power outlets there wereΒ the most Outlets spread throughout the cabin thatΒ Β we’ve seen on any cruise ship cabin there wasΒ the usual lineup of power options on the deskΒ Β
Along with two additional USBC ports there wasΒ also a USB port on each side of the bed and oneΒ Β of them also had a power outlet Additionally theΒ cruise line added some small shelves and more USBΒ Β Outlets tucked around the corner from the deskΒ this was the perfect place to store electronicsΒ Β
And served as my charging station throughoutΒ the week we were pleasantly surprised withΒ Β the balcony size while some cruise lines haveΒ reduced their balcony sizes on newer ships thisΒ Β one was deeper than expected the two chairs smallΒ table and Ottomans made it the perfect place toΒ Β
Do a little work in the afternoon or to watch ourΒ sale away from ports of C given our room locationΒ Β support beams did partially block The View thoughΒ however when we stayed on the starboard side ofΒ Β
Deck 14 we did not have the support beams overallΒ we would say that the balcony cabin on icon ofΒ Β the Seas was functional we were able to unpackΒ all our clothes and gear for the week using aΒ Β
Few of our trusted Cruise cabin hacks still weΒ expected the cabin to feel more like NorwegianΒ Β prima’s balcony stat room which we would argue areΒ the best for a contemporary Cruise Line one of theΒ Β biggest concerns Travelers have with larger shipΒ is service they’re worried about not being able toΒ Β
Escape the crowds or waiting in long lines forΒ food and drink but we’re happy to report thisΒ Β was not the case the icon of the Sea ServiceΒ was excellent whether it was Harry or OliverΒ Β
In the pearl cafe or one of the servers at theΒ lime and coconut most of the crew were cheerfulΒ Β and talkative service at the Casual restaurantsΒ was also prompt and attentive even at Peak diningΒ Β times most of these Quick Service venues wereΒ manageable and finding seats took minimal workΒ Β
As we mentioned we had my time dining with theΒ same weight staff and the meals were perfectlyΒ Β placed with our three courses typically takingΒ about 75 minutes we did dine at a few specialtyΒ Β restaurants and service day was equally impressiveΒ however these dinners all took close to 2 hoursΒ Β
Even when members of our party indicated theyΒ had a show reservation to catch the serverΒ Β couldn’t speed up our dinner orbit our state roomΒ attendant worked around our schedule to make upΒ Β our room daily like many contemporary Cruise LinesΒ Royal Caribbean has reduce servicing rooms to onlyΒ Β
Once a day though given this was a new ship andΒ we expected to find some Kinks we really didn’tΒ Β most venues had adequate Staffing and crew membersΒ seemed genuinely happy and excited to be workingΒ Β
On this new ship the cruise line certainly hasΒ many of its a team crew members on board and itΒ Β shows we can honestly ly say that the only venueΒ where we felt the crowds was the dueling pososΒ Β with a little planning and making reservationsΒ prior to the cruise you’ll hardly realize thatΒ Β
You’re on the largest cruise ship in the world weΒ are sure that this icon of the Seas Cruise reviewΒ Β has you super excited to cruise on this brandΒ new mega ship but before you do check out ourΒ Β
Complete icon of the Seas ship tour and walkr inΒ that video we go through all eight neighborhoodsΒ Β explore all 20 decks and share everything withΒ you about icon of the Seas that way you are oneΒ Β step ahead of everyone else on board and yourΒ icon the Seas cruise will be smooth sailing

Thank you for the good work π.
I'm Diamond plus with RCCL, and would love to try the Icon. However, the outrageously high fares make that impossible for a person of my income.
Dining room policy about ordering multiple entrees at the same time is likely an effort to reduce food waste onboard. Too many people having multiple delivered and wasting some of the food. This makes a lot of sense to me.
DB another great review. Icon seems very cool. And I wish to sail on her, but I think I like the Oasis Class Boardwalk w/ Playmakers and Aqua Show in the rear. And the Solarium in the Front layout, better.
Hey DB is humid with the Aqua Dome being inside ???
Great walkthrough video. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for sharing this video. I was curious if being on Deck 14 made you deal with a lot of noise coming from deck 15? Thanks
YouTube been showing me a lot of these icon videos this week
β€ so proud of you, you are strong woman. Continue being you and striving for yourselfππ
Might be a good idea to get a professional commenter, Iβm sure it would enhance the video, probably just me though as I only lasted the first couple of minutes. π€ͺ
You mentioned you had a more detailed food review of the places you dined. I can't find that video. Can you give me a link to it? I'm particularly interested in the pier 7 food items… hits and misses. I'm disappointed there are not more specialty dining on this massive ship. The supper club is ridiculously priced in my opinion and I prefer restaurants with more choices on the menu. While Royals food is not terrible, I do think it's their weakest link. I wouldn't mind paying a little more for their cruises if the food was more elevated. We typically purchase UDP when we sail on oasis class ships. Our upcoming icon is no different. Did you mention there will be a second stage show production in the works?? So excited about this ship and you did a TERRIFIC job with your review in this video.
What is the drink posted at 16:35? You mention espresso martini but this looks a lot lighter. Thank you.
With 7 pools, is it possible to choose the least crowded without having to walk around to visit each one?
It too big of a ship for me. Also, there are children on board. I prefer Viking as itβs adults only and the capacity is much smaller than a mega ship. Also the focus is educating you on the places youβll visit. No zip lines, rope courses or water parks. They also show feature films and nature films plus lectures from experts on the locations, animals, geography, geology of the places youβll visit. All the food areas are included with the exception of the Chefs Table which is a 15 person venue where the diners help the chef prepare the food. Wine and beer are included in the price. If you want spirits or higher class wines there is an up charge.
