Hi guys Welcome to our Home over the last four years Melissa and I have both been working very hard to develop our Dream property here in the beautiful mountains of North Idaho much of that property development has revolved around this our home which we built ourselves and despite not having any prior build experience we’re very

Happy and proud of how it turned out yeah so over the past two years we have been documenting the entire build here on the channel and the one thing that we have not done yet is give a full home tour now that the house is done so right

Off the bat this is a three-bedroom two bath one-story 1850 ft home and we wanted to start here in the heart of the house which is the great room when we designed the house we wanted the living room the dining room and the kitchen to be one giant room so that we’re always

Together so we want to show you some of our favorite features of this room when the time came for us to decide upon where it is that we wanted to place our home on our property the biggest consideration for us was really getting things situated to where no matter where

It was that we were in our great room we had the ability to look outside and take in the beautiful mountain views that we were blessed with here in this area yeah so we made the entire front wall glass pretty much as much glass as we could

Fit into that front wall and then since it is such a focal point in the room we wanted to do something a little bit different and I had this crazy idea to make it Stone since Melissa wanted Stone along this front wall and I’m no Mason we actually opted to go with a

Manufactured product this is an AirStone product this project was really involved it actually took us 5 days to cover this entire front wall and that was doing large part to the fact that we had to cut every individual piece and kind of fit things into place like a puzzle uh

Really happy with how it turned out and between the Browns Grays and blues it really matches the uh exterior view that we have here with the woods and the mountains we’re already here in this corner let me show you our hearthwood wood stove this is the biggest wood

Stove that was on the market at the time of purchase this thing does an awesome job of heating this great room even though we have really high ceilings in here between this and the ceiling fan we can get this place up to up in over 80° which is really warm but it’s really

Cold here in North Idaho so this thing is awesome to have my absolute favorite thing in this entire room is the ceiling the ceiling is Douglas fur Circle son from the Mountains of Montana it’s actually three different colors that we arranged as we installed it it took us

Well over a week to put up but I absolutely love it I saw a picture online before we even started drawing out the house so I knew I wanted this crazy wood ceiling and then to trim it all out we went with faux beams because we wanted that timber frame look but we

Didn’t really have the budget for timber frame so these beams are actually Hollow but it definitely gave us that feel and look that we love okay so my favorite part of the great room and maybe the entire house for that matter and this is by far is our elk antler chandelier this

Thing is fake I always have to explain to everybody when they come over that it’s not it’s faux it’s not real we have a real antler shed here on kitchen island but this thing does a great job of inating the kitchen and even greater than that it just serves as a nice

Centerpiece you know we get people that come over and it grabs attention we get a lot of questions and I love the way it looks we’re going for that very rural uh rustic country feel and this chandelier does a great job of achieving that I think yeah ladies if you tell your

Husband to pick a lighting fixture do not be surprised when this comes in the mail just trust them and go with it it’s really big Melissa was a little a little reluctant but I love the way it looks like I said and uh I don’t know I think

It kind of makes the room it does so this is the living room family room area and when we designed it it was all about comfort and practicality we love to watch movies and play board games and just hang out as a family so we found the biggest darkest color couch that is

Microfiber so that it will just wipe clean and that way our whole family can just veg out here together the cushions came with the couch and then these ones I found in a magazine I like throw pillows because then you can just change them out with holidays or as your style

Changes and everything else we kept really neutral we also decided not to go with a coffee table in here because the kids love gymnastics and just hanging out on the floor here so we kind of kept it open like a play Space so you may have noticed by now that we actually

Don’t have a dining room here in our home that was done intentionally by Design we had one in our last house we had a formal dining room there and turns out that we never use it so we figured when designing this home that we’ come up with a unconventional solution so we

Have a oversized kitchen island and this serves also as our dining room you can see that we have eight chairs around this side of the island our kids do all of their homeschooling here there’s six people in our family so that accommodates everyone and we’re trying

To think down the road for the future so if we have visitors coming here or the kids come back with kids of their own want to make sure that our grandkids can sit and eat with us as well I know that it’s unconventional but we actually love it it’s been a great uh

Solution so that brings us to the heart of the home which is the kitchen it actually starts with kind of a builtin desk SL editing station we thought about doing an office because we spent so many hours was editing YouTube videos but we kind of hated the idea of being shut

Away from the rest of the family so this is where the magic happens in the middle of all of the chaos but it’s how we like it so that’s why we have a little built-in desk here this is work and then the kitchen begins so when we designed the kitchen everything we wanted

Everything to be really neutral and Timeless so we went with these hand scraped naughty Alder cabinets and it’s actually the exact same wood and finish as our doors and trim so everything just kind of matches throughout the house we didn’t want anything trendy like gray or white even though those are beautiful I

Was a little afraid that they would kind of go out of style and I feel like wood because it’s the color of wood just is always in style so we went with a really neutral color and really neutral color cabinets or sorry countertops and backsplash as well that way we can kind

Of change out Decor but the the base of the kitchen and the base of the house all of those colors are really neutral and we last for a really long time so when designing the cabinets I wanted to make sure that everything had a place and was really nice and organized

Because in my previous kitchens there was a lot of wasted space and so I got on Pinterest and I have kind of a LoveHate relationship with Pinterest because I got all these ideas and so we did a lot of built-ins and a lot of really fun racks and so I will show you

Some of our favorites so all of the cabinets are slow close that way the kids cannot slam them they close really slowly and then all the underneath Parts have pull outs because it just seemed so much more practical for storing big things and you don’t get anything buried out there and

Those are slow clothes as well which is really nice so as far as built-ins go I’ve got the junk drawer I love a junk drawer I don’t care what anybody says you need a junk drawer in your life and if you don’t have one you need to get

One because a little organized chaos keeps you organized so we just hide all that away it’s paper clips and batteries and phone numbers of window cleaners another place that we did the built-ins was for the silverware because we have a lot of people and so I have two sets of

Silverware so instead of having the small little um organizer this way I can just have like 20 Forks that I dump in there so I actually really really love these dividers I think this was a really great idea if you’re designing a kitchen and then down here is my baking stuff so

This pulls out like that and then there’s dividers so instead of having everything just stacked in a big mess like I’ve always had and then you’re trying to dig for muffin tins and everything’s falling everything just sits in its nice little compartment for the pans we actually did a really fun

Rack that pulls out here so your pans aren’t sitting inside of each other and getting scratched and you don’t have to dig around to try to get the big pan out of the bottom so they all just hang really nicely like that and then they

Hide away and next to that is the blind corner so I’ve had all kinds of different things in blind corners but the cabinet maker put this in and was like just trust me you’re going to love these and he was right the kids call these the peanuts and they pull

Completely out so you can put your dutch ovens and your big noodle pans and I don’t think noodle pans is what this is actually called but we call it the noodle pan and like your turkey roaster there are two layers of it so it is such

A great use of space for the corner and we love that next down is the pullout garbage can so everybody told us that we have to have pullout garbage cans and we do really love it and our garbage really needs to be taken out come on E yeah garbage I have full

Garbages so while kamani takes the garbage out I will continue the tour uh next to the oven the stove is our spice cabinet I love this because it’s all of our cooking sprays and our cooking oils and our spices and everything that I need while standing at the stove right

Here so I think this is a really nice use of a 1ft section that we had no idea what we were going to do with it so I love this thing as well so we love that one so much we decided to do one over here as well this one’s for pretty much

All of your baking or cooking utensils spatulas noodle spoons I know it’s not called a noodle spoon but we eat a lot of noodles cooking oils again just anything you need while you’re at the stove So speaking of the stove I picked all of our appliances based on this

Stove I saw it and I loved it it’s black stainless and then it’s got um just kind of some bronze features on it that I thought were really nice and Timeless and kind of old world I love that kind of old Italy kitchen look so we did Zine appliances throughout the entire house

We’ve got the fridge we’ve got the hood vent the stove the dishwasher and something that is a little quirky a drawer microwave so this drawer microwave we’ve gotten questions about this and honestly I’m not a fan we’ve been in the house over a year now and to

Be perfectly honest I’m not a huge fan of this thing because it’s just really inconvenient and weird to be dropping your food down into the microwave and then pulling it up and out first world problem I know but if I had to do it all over again I’d probably go with a

Different option going into it we didn’t want to have anything that was going to be on our countertops or wall mounted so this is what we ended up with gets the job done I’m just honestly not a huge fan of it for our kitchen island we

Wanted to point out that we went with uh some different wood it’s different than all of our drawers and cabinets this is actually some refurbished Barnwood this was pulled off of a barn over in Montana it was suggested to us as a possible option by our cabinet maker and I’m

Really happy that we did it it offers up a lot of contrast and character especially because it’s there’s there’s a lot of imperfections but it just uh it draws your eye and it looks really cool for our countertops uh we had a difficult time finding countertops as well we went with some partially

Leathered Granite this is called snowfall love the way that this looks Melissa decided to go with this rough cut chiseled Edge that uh is actually doubled in height if that makes sense so this bottom portion is actually just a piece that’s glued on gives it that nice

Chunky look that we really like in this house so because of the double edge countertops which at about 2 in we had to go with a really short squatty dishwasher luckily Zine had one that fit perfectly so this is a Zine dishwasher and it needs to be unloaded so just

Close that there um I do not recommend a undersized dishwasher if you have four kids we run this thing a lot thank thankfully it’s energy efficient so we got a lot of questions about our Zine appliances in general and whether or not we like them I love the stove I’ve

Always wanted a propane stove so this has a griddle you can actually flip it and make pancakes on one side and then you can Grill stuff here if you want to do you know paninis or whatever up here which is kind of neat and then I can do

A lot of canning here which is ideal and this whole setup was for canning we went with the extra big Hood vent that sounds like a jet plane is taking off when I am canning but we’re able to have like three pots going and it’s just really really great for the

Oven this is a convection oven so it’s actually a propane and electric combination it’s propane on the top electric ovens because I didn’t want a propane oven I just don’t really know how to bake with them I still end up burning a lot of stuff because it is

Convection and I’m still learning we mostly just use this little one because on this side we can pretty much cook dinner just in that little one but when we’re doing a lot of baking we have this I love the racks the racks are on Wheels so they’re really really smooth so like

If you’re making a custard pie or a cheesecake or something it goes in so smoothly and you’re not like with the rack so as far as the fridge goes it’s a fridge I I don’t know it’s fine it’s nice and open and it’s big but the freezer space is really small so we

Cabinet that goes all the way around nothing too crazy in there are just cups plates bowls mugs things like that uh this back here you guys might be wondering what that science experiment is that’s actually kombucha we drink a lot of Kombucha in our home M does a

Great job of keeping us in stock with that and then here in the very Corner we have Melissa’s flare shelving that changes on a seasonal basis so if it’s fall she’ll stick a bunch of pumpkins up there in the Christmas time obviously she has her many many Christmas

Decorations that are set up there she really enjoys this corner yeah my flare corner it’s where I express myself really we just wanted to break up the heaviness of all of these upper cabinets so now that we have shown you the kitchen let’s go into the Pantry so probably my favorite room in the entire house is this Pantry I design the entire house around the pantry and the reason that the back of the house doesn’t have any windows in the great room section is because we do a lot of canning and we store all of our food in

Here so we can’t have natural light streaming in this needs to be dark and nicely tempered temperatured tempered tempered is that a word you know what she means you know what I mean anyway we don’t want Sunshine shining in here and making it really hot and ruining our

Canned food cuz we do a lot of gardening and a lot of food preservation so we put a long counter in here that way we can have our dehydrators going or we can do any kind of food prep in here we do a lot of like dry food storage and things

Like that in here we also use the under covers for all of our canning supplies the kids art supplies and all of our school work so it’s kind of a multi-purpose room yeah I me it’s a really neat space we have a storage closet at the very back that’s where our

Water heater is so that’s out of site we stick a lot of our vacuums and mops and brooms and stuff like that back there and then that secondary uh freezer that L mentioned before is actually tucked the way back behind the camera right now as well so it’s a really neat very well

Utilized space we did some open shelving over here pretty much just to be pretty I had a vision of putting canned foods up here and then I had another Vision that quickly followed of all of that crashing down so we decided just to do some Decor up here and then do all the

Practical shelving over here this shelving goes all the way to the floor and it is engineered to hold a lot of weight because it’s going to have a lot of weight on it canned food is very heavy so this is pretty much what’s left

Of what we can this year we plan to do a lot more in the future we were just getting back into it this year after a really long home build and then over here is all of our dry food storage I get a lot of questions about these jars

They’re literally uh just ball jars they’re one gallon and I got them at Walmart you can buy them in three and four packs so I love them they keep all the food really nice and fresh cuz they have a gasket on them and they look cute

So my concern in the pantry is not necessarily that things look pretty I’m more concerned with functionality and because of that we decided to get all of our good snacks tucked the way back here in our new Pantry it’s a really big pantry and we decided to include these

Same slide out drawers that we have over in the kitchen giving us really easy access to everything so while everything that is out looks really nice for Melissa for me when it comes to all my little midnight snacks keep that tuck away right here so when we designed the

Entire house we did one Central living space where we all come together and then we did the kids wing and the adult Wing so we will bring you over to the parents Wing Right so master bedroom this is where a lot of uh you know what goes down here a lot of rest and a lot of sleep sleep and um this is our little Oasis away from the kiddos it gives us a little break it’s a Well lit we got a slider at the

Front here that leads out to a patio a second window which is actually the first thing I look out every day when I wake up I don’t know about you but that’s always the first thing I do I look out the slider to see if the horses

Are still there because we have horses that like to jump the fence that makes sense so we have those same faux rustic Timber be mes up in the ceiling here that really is a nice touch in here I think we also went with an accent wall

In the back using that same tongue and Grove product that we had in the ceiling in the great room so it’s very nice very comfortable like I said this is our little Sanctuary our Oasis in the place that I really like to spend a lot of my

Time so from the bedroom you go into the walk-in closet and then through the closet leads you to the master bath but as far as the closet goes we did quite a few built-ins here we didn’t want dressers inside our bedroom so we we did those built in along with some

Bookshelving some overhead storage and then just a lot of closet bars and shoe racks and that way we can hide all of our junk in this little space let me show you what part of this is Melissa versus what part of this is mine so starting from here

Melissa that’s me just right here that’s all I need sorry Mama for our master bathroom again you pass through the master closet and you arrive in the master bath bathroom this is a separate toilet room we do have a window in here so that allows for a lot of natural

Light to kind of flow through here the reason that this small room ended up being so important for us is that for the almost 3 years that we were building our home we were living out in our pole barn and we didn’t have a toilet in

There so to get this thing back was huge because the 5 gon composting bucket system gets old really quick but we made it uh for our vanity section you see we have just a lot of typical storage uh that you’d find in most bathrooms we have his and her sinks

That’s most as side this is mine ordinarily you’d be very uh you could tell whose side is whose because mine is usually far Messier so for this shower it takes up the entire back portion of the bathroom and this worked out really well we didn’t have a ton of tile

Experience going into this project so we were a little intimidated but I’m happy with how it turned out we’ve got a narrow curb that we built we have some hexagonal tile there on the shower Basin and this is actually floor tile that we use up on the wall so so again

Everything functions properly we don’t have any leaks or any issues or anything like that which was a concern going into it so I love this bathroom like I said the toilet was huge we were so grateful for everything is that we have in this home but that in particular made a

Massive massive difference in our lives so that’s it for the parent Wing we will take you over to the kids Wing so we get a lot of questions as to why we only Built a three-bedroom house when we have four kids and the reason is this is our

Forever house this is a house that Jeremy and I are hoping to grow old in so it’s why we built it one story and it’s why we only put three bedrooms in we have two teenagers they will be growing up and moving out soon which is

Very sad but at the same time we didn’t want to be Heating and cleaning a five-bedroom house for the rest of our lives so we did one boys room and one girl’s room however we don’t take cameras inside those rooms anymore we did show them when we were building the

House but now that they’re living in there and it’s all their private stuff we keep cameras out of the kids’ rooms what we can show you is the kids bathroom it is a relatively standard bathroom room you can see they have the same vanity we do with all the storage I

Would open all of this up for you but I guarantee because it belongs to the kids it’s probably a disaster so there are double sinks they have the same tilt mirrors that we do same lighting uh they have a linen closet about halfway down storing all of their towels TP bathroom

Goodies a very unique option in this bathroom is the fact that there’s a second door that leads out to a mud room the reason we have this here is because a few feet down and this is actually an exterior door so if I’m ever out outside

Working and I happen to get really muddy or dirty or if I have my shoes on I just want to run in here real quick to use a bathroom I can do so work my way directly into their bathroom without making a mess and taking that throughout the

House here inside the laundry and M room which is actually the smallest room in the house we had to be really careful about the space because it’s a very narrow room so the washer and dryer fit by like a half an inch but they fit to

Do some just blanket storage and have a place to put the laundry basket we did some open shelving up here it also adds a little bit of Decor to the room I like the open shelving and then I almost did not put a mudroom sink in Jeremy said

Just put it in we’ll use it and he’s so right when we come in from working this is the first sink and we’re able to wash our dirty hands here we wash a lot of vegetables and things like that from the garden here so we don’t have to bring

Them into the kitchen keep all my laundry room soap down here and then over here we have a built-in bench for just putting boots on or just sitting I don’t know it’s nice for putting your shoes on and then underneath I did a bunch of little drawers for all of our

Mittens and hats I learned through having a bunch of kids that mittens get spread all throughout the house and they never ever have their match so now that we have a a space for them we have our matches and I love these little drawers and then next to it is a big wardrobe

Where we put all of our snowsuits and our heavy jackets that way we don’t have to use up space in our bedroom closets we can just put all of the winter jackets here that way when we take them off and they’re wet or anything like

That we can pop them in the dryer throw them right back in here and everyone knows where their coats are so this room actually leads out this door to a Breezeway to our garage SL aition build we are building a whole apartment upstairs for our kids we want to let you

Guys see that as well because we are about halfway through that build so we still have a lot ahead of us so this brand new garage space is approximately 1,000 ft in total area you good there still under construction still under construction it’s a little Dusty in here

Which is the reason for the sneezing we just got some drywall put up overhead on the ceiling we had our two garage doors in the front installed this is going to house a tiny little space at the very back corner for things like the water heater for the apartment overhead and

Then also the very back behind me here will be an eventual staircase that leads upstairs to the apartment space so this is the addition space it is a one-bedroom one bath 950 ft apartment we are building this for our children as they age our daughter is about to be 18

So she’s going to be leaving the big house and moving into what we are referring to as the weaning pad the weaning pad so this way they can just come up here and learn to be adults and save money and it’s here if they need it

If not no big deal it will be guest housing so we will walk you around this real quick but we still have a lot a lot of work ahead of us in this build so this is what we’re going to be working on this year you enter the apartment

Here and to the left is a big utility closet this is where the washer and dryer will be and vacuums and brooms and whatever they have they can hide all of that away and then you walk right into the kitchen we are doing an L-shaped kitchen and then there’s going to be a

Island here for extra storage so that they can also use it as a dining room table but there’s not going to be any overhead Cabinetry because we had to go short with the wall so that the addition build being a two-story didn’t topple over the main house so we only went 6t

With the walls and then the ceiling vaults to give it that nice open feeling but storage is definitely be an issue so we did a small walk-in Pantry so all of the food can be stored over there and then when you travel this way it is a

One full bath it’s just going to be a tub shower combination in here with a vanity toilet very typical bathroom and then one bedroom we talked about doing two bedrooms but instead we decided to keep this a sizable bedroom one nice size bedroom and then there’s a large

Walk-in closet at the back so this is the living room space and we kept this really nice and big because we wanted them to be able to use it for whatever they want our daughter’s a piano player maybe she wants to bring a piano up here

Maybe they want to add a table and chairs they have the best view in the entire property they definitely have a better view than we have from the main house it is pretty incredible so we still have a lot of work ahead of us and we want this build to be its own

Standalone thing so it’s not going to look anything like the house build we’re doing totally different design elements in here we still have a lot of choice to make but I think it’s going to come out really great all right there you go guys that

Is a tour of our home at least as far as we’ve gotten it to date it’s been a very involved process we’ve actually enjoyed the process kind like we said in the beginning of this video this is something that Melissa and I have been dreaming about doing for many many years
