Naporitan Recipe, Italians’ Most Hated Spaghetti

The naporitan (napolitan, named after Naples Italy) is a Japanese ketchup & butter based spaghetti filled with hearty ingredients. Originally conceived by a Yokohama chef inspired by occupying American soldiers eating everything with ketchup, this dish has become one of the most iconic yōshoku (“western food”) in Japan.

[Ingredients]
100g spaghetti
1/2 onion
1/2 green peppers
2 ~ 3 mushrooms
3 ~ 4 Japanese wieners (arabiki sausage)
1/3 canned tomatos
3 tbsp ketchup
1/2 tbsp worcestshire sauce
10g butter
Assorted salt, olive oil, shredded cheese, parsley

1. Cut up onions, peppers, mushrooms, Japanese wieners.
2. Sauté in olive oil at medium heat with dash of salt until lightly charred.
3. Add canned tomatoes, continue sautéing for a minute or two.
4. Move it over. Add, mix, & simmer ketchup/worcestshire sauce.
5. Entangle with everything, lower heat, add & mix 3 ~ 5 tbsp pasta water.
6. Add & mix spaghetti (with heat still at low), add butter until it melts.
7. Top it off with shredded(or powdered) cheese & parsley. Enjoy!

  1. only the weak don't see the power of ketchup, it's a really good condiment when cooked properly. the canned tomatoes are a no go for me, unless they are high quality italian tomatoes, which, lets be real are overpriced as f

  2. Me an Italian at the beginning wondering why onions pepper and a sausage would upset us

Me after he added the ketchup

Canned tomatoes are ridiculed a lot but imo they are fine if you’re on a budget and can’t afford some nice tomatoes for a fresh sauce…Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Just make sure you let it slow simmer and build in some nice layers of flavors to makeup for it, cook it with love if you can’t start from scratch. (My advice)

    Have a goood day everyone
