In this video, which is part of the wine collecting 101 series, John Jackson, DipWSET aka Attorney Somm, identifies 10 of his favorite wines that cost $50 or less. These wines are each from Attorney Somm’s 8 key wine categories and are ideal wine cellar defenders, but are also collectible and age-worthy wines. These wines all offer excellent quality for the price and are wines that are consistent year in and year out.

Great video !!! you are on a roll John ! Very bold move of you to include a merlot from Napa and very happy to see some new world wines since I am a fan of them as well. For me top $50 or less are : Chateau Laroque, Chateau Tour De Christophe, Austin Hope cab ( Paso Robles), Post and Beam cab ( from Far Niente), among a few others. As a suggestion maybe you could do a tasting and recommendations about the cheapest category of all : bulk wines, gallon wines, boxed wines. Although maybe not your audience favorites, it would be good to see which wines in the extra cheap category are worth seeking for that Subway or burger. For me a good one is the Barefoot merlot at $5 or so. Have a great day
Grüner Veltliner is food friendly and I need to drink more of it. I love the sound of the 2018 Merlot as well. Excellent recommendations, John! I appreciate your expertise, and I’ll be referring to your YouTube videos for wine to stock up on! Cheers!
can't get enough of your content, keep it coming!
Hello John. I was particularly interested in the Brunello recommendation. I have half a case of '15 (Val di Suga) and half a case of '16 (Tenuta Buon Tempo) in the merchant's cellars and I was thinking of leaving them there for a couple more years. On listening to your thoughts I might liberate at least one of them next year.
Drinking a very pleasant Gevrey Chambertin Villages, 2012 this weekend.
Thank you for making a link between last week’s video and this video with specific wine examples to buy!
Thank you my friend for the tips, keep up the good content. 🇧🇷🇧🇷
John thank you for these type of videos. You really do a great job of getting us all the information in a very concise, informative style. I've been getting back into wine after a long stint with single malt whiskies(which I still chase) so your info has been well re eived. Cheers
@ Attorney Somm . Great content, concepts and frameworks. I have had to adapt the whole cellar defender concept for local availablity and price points- but I'm using the framework as the foundation to build on.
Very nice video again!
Thank you for yet another excellent video with superb, impressive, and truly reliable recommendations. I was actually searching the online stores here while watching this video. So far, I’ve located only one: the 2018 Knights Valley Beringer. I’ll be placing my order this week! I might also be able to track down a bottle of Château Phélan Ségur. Hoping to find the others, too; some of them, if not all. Merci beaucoup, John, for this fantastic video! As always, it’s not only helpful but also credible! Santé, John!
Nice list, thank you!
Where I am I can get the 2018 Beringer Knights Valley for around $23, I assume that's a good price for it?
Austin Hope Cabernet from Paso Robles California $45 at Costco last time I looked is a great wine that will stand up to wines twice the price. It will age well.
👍
Not a single Burgundy???
Excellent recommendations! Thank you for sharing this. The Gravonia is a new one for me, but I'm very interested to try it.
I'm also an attorney and wine aficionado. Thanks for these videos. Good to have these individualized recommendations for red wines at different price points.
I got two bottles of that Poderina from Costco around 35 bucks! 🙌🏽happy to see it on your list
love your videos about wine collecting! have you considered giving a tour of your own collection? would personally find that super interersting.
Love your content!
I am searching for a Cabernet Sauvignons below for under $50. I want to explore more of Napa (really enjoyed the 2019 Mondavi Winery CS) but am also eager to try for the first time wines from Paso Robles and Pessac Leognan. If you had to choose one of the following, which would you recommend (or rank in order of preference) for someone in search of value considering its price:
– Austin Hope ($49)
– Hall ($40)
– Petit Smith Haut Lafitte ($36)
– Silverado ($35)
– Bonus Daou but with the addition of your recommendated Chateau de Saint Cosme Cote du Rhone (totaling $34)
