Taburno is a mountain in Campania Region, south Italy. It is well known for the production of red wine (mostly Aglianico).
The countryside there is untouched and beautiful.
I went there to take part in a 20km trail race. The race is part of a circuit called Trail delle Contrade (check it out on Facebook). The gain in altitude was about 2,500 metres. So it is safe to say it was a tough race. Along the way we met all kinds of terrain. A few cattle herds. Grottos and a Sanctuary.
It felt like crossing a Wilderness dotted with Mystical moments.
After the race the highlights were Attilio’s wine (which I sampled very generously) and mother horse and her colt running free and delighting screaming children.
Well worth running, if you are fit enough and love nature.
