Today we’re taste testing frozen pizza brands. These are all available nationwide. We know there are many more but wanted to limit it to eight.

  1. You guys voted on what taste test you wanted next. Frozen pizza was the winner. If you have more suggestions, please let us know below. We love making these videos and plan to make more, but don't worry we are still posting our weekly recipe video every Thursday. Thanks as always for liking and sharing our videos!

  2. I’m so glad you guys liked Amy’s as much as you did. A pro tip though, get it browned up nice. The browner the better. The cheese on it crisps and takes a whole new flavour profile with the sauce. Also the dough crunched so nicely.

Dang… I’m going to go make one now lol.

Oh, I also have some garlic butter with mine. The lower calories gives a little leeway to make a low calorie garlic “butter”. (I use imperial “butter” and real garlic AND dried garlic powder.)

  3. Palmermo used to have a really good thin crust pizza. Costco used to sell them.

  4. 1. All taste tests should be done blind to avoid bias based on name.

    2. What kind of person eats plain pizza without toppings? Communists, that's who.

    3. Pizzas are not "pies". By definition, pizzas have toppings. Pies have fillings. Therefore they are different.

    4. Your prices listed are outrageously high. Where do you like that a cheap frozen pizza is $8? Around here, Digiorno is $5.50 and Red Baron is $3.99. The party pack of three is under $8.

  5. Great job! Thank you very much!
Not a fan of anything frozen, but I did try Amy's brand pizza once because it was on sale, and most of the brand uses natural or organic ingredients. No pizza is bad pizza. Some are just better than others. The thing you have to weigh is if it is worth the price. Amy's is not, even on sale. To me, it was like trying to chew cardboard. And I do like a thin crust pizza. But never, frozen again. Especially when the ingredients take up the whole back of the box. It is impossible to be any good or even real.

  6. I love that you don't waste time. You jump in, taste and comment quickly, compare textures and then give us a ranking pretty quickly. It's entertaining in your style of video.
    And it's not a 30 minute video!

  7. The ONLY one Ive found is Newmans. ALL the rest in my local stores, have "Bio engineered ingredients" and to me, NOTHING with BIO ENGINEERED INGREDIENTS is worth buying. I wouldn't eat it if they paid me.

  8. I will tell you one thing. I bought & cooked an "Albertsons" brand frozen "3 meat" pizza. It was the most bland, 4 pound disc of bread I ever tried. ZERO marinara, ZERO toppings, 3 strands of cheese. I'm NOT kidding. The dog wouldn't even look at it. I've tried other "Albertsons" brand items & have been just as disappointed. NOT worth the try. Roll up and eat the cash you'll waste, it'll taste better.

  9. I can't stand frozen pizzas simply because I find the sauces all ketchup tasting. But I will try Amy's based on your video and report back.

  10. Ah, frozen pizza. A staple of young singles. Whichever 1 you pick, depends on how hungry you are and your budget. Though, as a primarily a sausage pizza fan, your options are somewhat limited, these days.

  11. A Whole Foods product cheaper than the competitors? I never thought I'd live to hear that said…

  12. I don't think I ever met anybody who ate a cheese only pizza. You need onions, pepperoni, Italian sausage, mushrooms, green olives, and jalapenos.

  13. Jacks is fantastic finished on a pizza steel especially. Must cook til golden brown.

  14. I ended up trying the Good & Gather on recommendation from this video and it does taste pretty good, though it was just tiny. It would make a nice appetizer I think. After all these years I'm still nostalgic for a good cheap Red Baron supreme

  15. In NY I rather buy mine in the pizza store and freeze some slices. It's far superior to any frozen pizza that tastes horrible mostly. I like Elios pepperoni pizza its tasty but it hardly has any cheese. I like the sauce and i sprinkle olive oil, oregano, black pepper, and grated parmesan cheese before baking. if i had red pepper flakes i would put that on too after it cooks.

  16. Trick to making frozen pizza better, broil the last 5 min. Get that top layer melted and crispy.

  17. Your son doesn't know how lucky he is when he says, "I've never had Pizza Hut." Lol. I'm not knocking Pizza Hut, they're okay, but undoubtedly, the home cooked pizzas from your kitchen are far superior.
Edit: Having said that, maybe get him some Pizza Hut. Everyone has their own preferences.

  18. I don’t know if you are familiar with SCHWANS home delivery. (From Minnesota) They vend frozen food from a yellow truck. Anyway, they make both the Red Barron and Tombstone pizza’s that you tried. They have their own brand also under the Schwans name but taste a lot like the Red Barron.

  19. I have fond memories of eating a DiGiorno vegetarian pizza's every Saturday when I was spending the night at my grandparents as a kid. Oddly enough I remember not really liking the pizza but it was a pizza and my grandparents were big on health food and organic / eco living so their Saturday pizza nights were fun and wild nights in my child brain. They eventually switched to Amy's spinach pizzas which was so much better. They lived in the middle of the woods in Michigan so ordering pizza wasn't really a thing.

  20. Jim, I am new to your channel, but have enjoyed seeing your cooking demos, and have watched a few of your "blind taste tests too." I think most frozen pizzas have terrible crusts (or sauce or cheese), and many of the delivered pizzas are "lotsa bread" but not much flavor. After trying many frozen pizzas, the best frozen pizza I have ever had was Newman's Own, with the crust IMPORTED from ITALY. It had slices of Fior Di Latte Mozzarella Cheese, and pieces of basil leaves on the top. After preparing it per the instructions, it tasted as good as some of the best "artisan, brick oven, wood fired" pizzas I have had. The crust was somewhat thin in middle, thicker on edge (like hand formed), and had the right amount of gluten for a chewy bite. Yes, the crust alone is delicious and chewy. It was outstanding. Nothing else comes close to that, if one is using American grocery store type frozen pizzas for comparison. It does NOT taste like a "New York Slice" (I've lived in NYC) and should not be compared to that style. This is different, but delicious.

Here is some info from their website. Notice the type of quality ingredients used.
Newman’s Own Margherita Stone-Fired Crust pizza

The new pizzas are imported from Italy and stone-fired at 900°F for 60 seconds to lock in the flavors of the toppings and maintain a light, airy and slightly crispy texture until they’re ready to be baked, Newman’s Own said. The pizzas are available in three varieties: margherita, quattro formaggi (four cheese) and spinaci and formaggi (spinach and cheese).

The margherita pizza is topped with a traditional tomato sauce, Buffalo mozzarella cheese and basil leaves. It has no preservatives or artificial ingredients.

The four cheese pizza features fior di latte mozzarella, Buffalo ricotta, Buffalo mozzarella, Pecorino Romano cheese and basil leaves. It has no preservatives or artificial ingredients.

The spinach and cheese pizza is made with caciocavallo cheese, fior di mozzarella, Grana Padano, spinach, garlic and lemon. It has no artificial colors or flavors.

The stone-fired pizzas have a SRP of $7.29. All proceeds from the sale of the products go to organizations that help children.

Crust (Wheat Flour, Water, Durum Wheat Semolina, Sea Salt, Yeast), Sauce (Peeled Tomatoes {Whole Peeled Tomatoes, Tomato Juice, Basil}, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Sea Salt), Fior Di Latte Mozzarella Cheese (Cow Milk, Salt, Rennet), Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Basil Leaves.

  21. I liked that your wife also rated them off camera. Maybe you could put up a poster board or something and have a little grid with a column for each of you or each of you put a symbol or taped some thing or somehow put your choices in the grid, so in the end we’ve got that to look at. It was good when you grouped them saying less bottom three or something together but with eight choices and three judges, I think about a grid to visually help us viewers! I love these tests you are doing lately

  22. I don’t know why this is an unresolved issue. All frozen pizza from the grocery store sucks. If you’re unable to buy fresh, hot pizza during normal business hours, buy it on your day off and freeze it yourself. Anything you buy from a decent pizzeria will always be superior after reheating to any frozen pizza garbage.

  23. i get the good & gather 4 cheese self rising & dress it with whatever I want… the crust is much, much better than the digiorno equivalent imho
