Yknow, considering that 98% of people who have had the opportunity to eat something with truffle oil or flavor are probably getting some Chinese truffle product, it's not bad, it's actually pretty good. In quality maybe it's not reaching the godly heights of 300,000 dollar Italian truffles, but it is still a very enjoyable flavor, and more than that, it's like, about 2% of the cost, if that, of the European alternative

Go eat a dish made with real Italian truffle. They are something special. If they were gone – it wouldn’t be the end of the world – but it sure would suck.
Both legal and illegal farming reduce the number of truffle.
It is slightly more sustainable to farm legally, since you can file your findings and contribute to science – Though to save the truffle the legality of farming is putting fuel both to its exctinction AND to the science leading to the truffle being protected from being picked.

Of course they will say the Chinese ones are crap. And to be fair, they probably are. But it would have been good journalism to do a blind taste test with numerous punters and even the posh cooks/owners featured in this video. Just so we can see if they really are that different. To me, they all look absolutely disgusting but I know many people do really like them.
