Day 11 – Ladakh Ride – Jispa to Manali

Today I will travel through Atal Tunnel, fascinating target of mine on this ride, since a long time. Explicitly named behind beloved former prime minister of our country, Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Lathergic day in the entire tour, was today. I woke up late in this naturally soothing tent camping, ate good healthy parathas in breakfast and started my ride towards Manali. I had a nice conversation with my fellow campers at this place. I had bought Tibetian flag from Kharu for my bike & my friends. On this last day at Ladakh, I took a special privilege to tie it on my bike’s handle bar.

Got the bike completely loaded and budged it towards another state. I was now about to enter a well-known place Keylong, which is next to Jispa. Distance from Kharu to Keylong is 325 kms approximate, where there is no presence of any fuel station in between. I fueled up petrol at Keylong’s Indian Oil. Moved ahead straight, but on a zig zag road and in a close proximity of nature…. green lush mountains, with beautiful pure white waterfalls. Surpassing ride from banks of Chandra & Bhaga river, witnessing their confluence & distinct colours merging.

Then entered into the most awaited tunnel of the ride “Atal tunnel”, which is tunneling through Rohtang Pass & jumped into Himachal Pradesh’s Solang Valley directly.

Here was the another heaven, “Manali”. Surrounded all over with Himalayan Cedar or Deodar trees.

Specially mentioning my most favourite stay on this whole ride at “Banon Resort”, where I preferred staying in a cottage to experience over whelming Manali, as it had a private lawn facing deodar trees all around, with a luxury room. Service was so humble like I had visited my own friend’s house. Just fabulous!

Quite a long back, I had a most deliberate plan decided to accomplish when in Manali. It was to visit a famous rider’s cafe here called as “Ride Inn”.

Stunning, absolutely stunning!

Just a little inside from national highway, connecting to old Manali via a narrow bridge over the Beas river. Only one vehicle could pass at a time over the bridge constructed & the other coming from opposite direction has to compulsorily wait. However, a new bridge beside in under construction.

Bucket full of amazement from the beginning of entrance at Ride Inn. Stay cum restaurant facility is also available at this venue. Restaurant set up is at the last floor with a joint terrace that let’s you out to view the scenic beauty of Deodar trees making mountains lushy green, beas river flowing at a tremendous speed & a small apple garden in the premises. It was slightly raining in Manali on the day I arrived, making the atmosphere more pleasant with freezing breeze.

Cafe was accustomed with various spare parts of bikes, well utilizing it for the purpose of interior decoration. Like number plates per state were seen, every dining table was uniquely presented with nuts, bolts, chain pockets, spoke tyre rim, horns, bike handles, sitting structure designed in a form of rider & pillion seat. Designs made out of tyres & foams. One whole wall specially painted with rider’s stickers visiting Ride Inn & the other showcased complete map of Manali & Ladakh. Motivating qoutes for riders were placed very effectively. Prime serving table was made out of a complete Chetak Scooter, well painted and placed with jars & bowls. Hanged biking T-shirts, placing magazines on shelves & what not! While in Manali if you want to taste delicious food, then this is the place for you. I preferred eating Italian cuisine here, as I was craving for it since I had left Mumbai.

Astonishing serving process & mouth watering taste. Cooking own cultivated veggies in self made sauces, extracting fresh apple juice, cider vinegar, pulp, etc. direct from their own garden. And complementarily serving their home made cookies with tea, were simply commendable.

Clicked & covered many pictoral memories & happily departed from this place. Later I visited local markets of Manali, just to site window shopping. Saw a famous dancing influencer, performing on the crowded street of this market, driving complete attention of all the audience by his performance. After exploring a little, I returned back to the hotel, ate dinner & went to sleep.
