The Vino Intrepido is James Scarcebrook, a wine communicator, wholesaler, retailer and now maker. From studying all facets of the wine industry over the years, he recently turned his hand to the making of the juice, and turns out he’s a bit of a dab hand at it all. Whether it’s down to his years of study or simply natural talent remains to be seen, but his first forays into winemaking over the past few years have yielded great results!
After having spent time in Italy and developing a real passion for the food, wine and culture there, James works heavily with Italian grape varieties being grown in some amazing Victorian vineyards. If you’ve never heard of Nero d’Avola, or ‘Nero’ as its affectionately referred to… welcome to the world of wine discovery. Nero d’Avola is a more recent variety to Australian vineyards, as due to its drought resistance, it is very suited to our climate. From warm and sunny Mildura, ‘Nero’s Fiddle’ is 100% Nero, and one of the finest made from our sunny landscape. While it can seem like an easy and uncomplicated wine, it is these ripe and jubey red fruits that layer over one another, and offer so much drinking pleasure.
Such an immediately attractive wine, flourishing with a lifted bouquet of fresh purple flowers. Chewy dark fruits, such as fresh ripe cherries, both red and black, overlay a serious wine that drinks like the fun had eating pomegranates with a safety pin. Raspberry cordial concentrate spilt over beach sand. A freshness and tart tang clean up the palate leaving it lingering with sweet spice. Smooth and fun like J.B Smoove.
