Ernesto Illy Biography – Italian Food Chemist and Businessman

Ernesto Illy (Trieste, 18 July 1925 – Trieste, 3 February 2008) was an Italian entrepreneur and scientist.

Ernesto Illy completed his high school studies in Trieste and then graduated in Pure Chemistry at the University of Bologna in 1947.

Ernesto was the son of Francesco Illy, who in 1933 founded Illycaffè, whose work he continued. In 1956 he became co-owner and director of the company; from 1963 to 2005 he was its president and later honorary president. He married Anna Rossi, with whom he had four children: Francesco, Riccardo, Anna and Andrea.
