Wine: Sangiovese Superiore di Romagna 2015
Region: Italy
As described by their website:
“The most frequently cultivated vine in Italy, Sangiovese is used to make some of the country’s most renowned wines. This variety finds an ideal setting in the hills of Castrocaso. Here, grapes obtain just the right level of concentration and ripeness, giving rise to wines with great personality and character, that have nothing to envy of wine produced in their more highly acclaimed bordering territories.”
So I bought this from a recommendation of this type by my friend Chef Warren Laine-Naida. It was about $18.95 at Specs here in San Antonio, Texas.
This wine has an opposite feel or pairing than my White Label 100 proof Evan Williams Straight Kentucky Bourbon.
This wine paired well with cashews and 86% dark chocolate. It was terrible with chips and salsa. Drinking this wine after chips and salsa gave a sour feel. No bueno.
The bourbon was great with the chips and salsa and 86% dark chocolate. It was terrible with the cashews.
This bourbon girl approves. I would definitely buy this again and recommend it as something to bring to a dinner party — as long as your host isn’t serving spicy food.
