Dinner at Piazza Duomo was an event to remember. This was the first experience of a 3 star Michelin restaurant. We had already enjoyed fantastic meals in Alba and wondered how different it might be….. living in London, we are surrounded by a wealth of excellent restaurants. Delighted that Piazza Duomo exceeded our expectations.
The staff were friendly and helpful compared to ones we often encounter in fine dining restaurants. They were happy to adapt the tasting menu to suit our preferences. The ambience was elegant and comfortable. As it seems with most Italian restaurants, small well-behaved dogs were welcome!
The chef Enrico Crippa took great pride in creating beautiful dishes which were truly a feast for the eyes. Every course was amazing visually and I so enjoyed photographing the dishes.
He used local products most coming from within a radius of 50 km and the salad course contained 81 ingredients selected from his own vegetable garden. This gave a new meaning to the word “salad”… So many colours, textures and tastes! I have never seen such a magnificent dish!
Grippa is Italian and his work is clearly influenced by his stays in France and Japan. The first course, with so many dishes, in particular reminded us of the careful attention to detail and precise preparation and presentation in the Land of the Rising Sun.
Since 2012 Enrico Grippa has been awarded 3 Michelin stars and in 2017 Piazza Duomo was awarded 15th position in the 50 best restaurants in the world.
It was a privilege to enjoy this meal which was “a piece of art” and to meet the chef afterwards; an unforgettable experience.
