As we did not manage to get to our friends wedding we decided to stay longer in Akchour and also visit the Blue City Chefchaouen. Lockdown in Morocco is ending on 10th August but there are rumours about another extension. There are also rumours that everyone who’s visa has expired has to leave Morocco by 10th otherwise there will be a fine to pay.
We both agreed that this is the right moment to get tickets and go home.
It felt very strange and exciting and sad all at the same time to leave this Country. The Ferry experience was the first sign of Europes mechanical approach and not much feeling to follow human actions. Everyone in a rush to get somewhere, plastic forks, enormous price tags for cold & tasteless food, no emotions and gayness. Not a pleasant sight. We were energised by the blue water of Mediterranean Sea and thoughts about all our friends wanting to see us back home.
After 3 days on the ferry we reached land – Italy. Italy was our choice because from Italy to Latvia is around 2500km, if we would have taken the ferry to Spain then the distance would double.
With Latvia in our hearts and thoughts we did not explore any places on the way and cruised slowly 500km a day towards our home border. There was not much to see on the motorways except Switzerland which is truly magnificent. Mountains and rivers and green, green nature.
We got to Latvia with no trouble, car worked well all the way with the wine cork supporting our gear change 🙂
Pulling in to the drive of our apartment block was like the end of the journey and we sat quietly in the car. Funny enough we could not find the keys for the flat so we slept in the van right by the flat.
Next morning sitting in the flat with a coffee cup and gazing out of the window I said to Krista: ‘I will never live in a flat!’
This journey has changed us, and I believe, for better. We want to be out with the nature and to see and feel. To experience and share.
Thank you for being with us so far and keep and eye out for us as this is definitely not the end but a new beginning.
