Sometimes you just want to sit back and relax with a nice, crisp bottle of white wine. Here’s what David is having this Labor Day Weekend.
The Labor Day 3!
2018 Reverdy Sancerre, Loire Valley $32.95
There are many Reverdy’s producing wine but Domaine Hippolyte Reverdy is consistently one of my favorite Sancerre producers from the Loire Valley. This is the same Kimmeridgian limestone found in Chablis and imparts a similar style of minerality: pure and crystalline with mouthwatering acidity. They are citrus driven without the hard grassy tones some come to expect from Sauvignon Blanc. The wines are great with goat cheese, salads or on its own. Super drinkable Sauvignon Blanc, all I need is a straw…
2018 Pojer Sandri Muller-Thurgau $21.95
Muller-Thurgau is most known for production in Austria, but this example is coming from just across the border in Northern Italy’s Trentino-Alto Adige region near Lake Garda. They have innovated a style of proprietary winemaking in the absence of oxygen to avoid over reduction; which involves washing the grape bunches before pressing in a nitrogen-saturated, oxygen free environment.
2019 Unti Vermentino, Dry Creek Valley $26.95
Unti started in 1997 and specializes in Mediterranean style wines. The grape here is Vermentino which is typically found in Italy and southern France where it is known as Rolle. The wines are fermented in stainless steel at a cool temperature to maintain the fresh fruit character and aromatics. Post fermentation, the wines are aged in concrete to provide small levels of oxidation similar to oak aging without imparting any wood flavors. This is a bright and fresh, easy drinking and super food friendly wine. Rock & Rolle!
