The cantaloupe is delicious on its own or in a fruit salad, or you can serve it, for example, with raw ham, as a classic Italian appetizer. Let’s see how to peel and cut it.
The key to buying a good melon is to check that the rind is not bruised or with brown spots.
Cut the cantaloupe in half.
Take one half of the cantaloupe, and, using a spoon, scoop out the seeds and strings from the centre over a bowl.
After removing the seeds, take one half and, using a knife, cut into wedges along the outer ridges. Then cut along the rind to free the flesh of each wedge.
Cut the flesh into cubes to make a fruit salad.
Instead of serving the classic wedges, you can make nice melon balls. It’s very easy if you use a round melon baller, in this way.
To cut the cantaloupe into a basket-shape, remove two sections in this way.
Now cut the flesh into a handle, and scoop out the inner seeds with a spoon.
You can fill your basket with a fruit salad or with the flesh of the melon itself.
