Tasca family member and Estate Manager Costanza Chirivino joins Elena and Kristin to chat about Grillo, a fascinating cross between Catarratto and Moscato. The 100-acre islet of Mozia lies in the Marsala Lagoon, around half a mile from the mainland of Sicily. It was identified as a very defensible position for a trading outpost by Phoenicians around 800 BC. Joseph Whitaker purchased the island in 1902, and today the Whitaker Foundation remains dedicating to researching and preserving the ruins there, both ancient and more modern. Visitors can take a small ferry, or even a kayak to Mozia, and spend a day marveling at the collection of Phoenician artifacts on display and admiring the salt flats. The Tasca family, leaders in Sicilian viticulture, produce a wonderful expression of Grillo for the Whitaker Foundation, the only wine from Mozia. Elena and Kristin share their food pairing suggestions, and native Sicilian Costanza offers up her favorite choice with Grillo!
