Owned for more than 30 years by the Tozzi family, Caffe Roma has become an institution on the Sydney dining scene. We interviewed Danilo Tozzi, cafe owner and King Cross icon, to talk about the history of Sydney’s infamous red light district and its revolution.

“We started with my brothers in 1986…the first Italian cafe, that’s why we got famous.” The Tozzi brothers were young, vibrant and completely foreign to Sydney residents and the young people flocked. Ever since opening, Caffe Roma has brought in unrivalled queues and have hosted the likes of David Bowie, Ed Sheeran and Bono. Anyone who goes to Caffe Roma leaves as part of the family. You might as well change your last name to Tozzi.
