From Piemonte to New York, Giancarlo Gariglio shares his lockdown experiences with Giuseppe Leonardo LoCascio. He discusses how lockdown has changed his routine from a frequent traveler for Slow Wine Guide to stay home dad. He’s making the most of the opportunity to focus on his exercise routine, cooking with his wife, teaching his daughter, and even writing a fiction book! Similarly, Giuseppe has been cooking with his wife and thinking about wines to pair with their meals.

In 2010 Giancarlo Gariglio began contributing to Slow Wine Guide and he became the Guide’s curator a year later. By 2012, “Slow Wine” was published in both Italian and English. Giancarlo has also authored numerous books under the Slow Food umbrella. Examples include Easy Wine, Le Migliori 100 Bollicine d’Italia, and I migliori 100 Vini Rosa d’Italia. Since first getting involved in “Slow Food” in 2001, he’s continued to cultivate his love of wine and rural culture and began to take part in regional tasting commissions for the Italian Wines Guide published by Gambero Rosso and Slow Food Editore. Giancarlo has contributed to numerous newspapers and periodicals including Slowfood, La Stampa (and its supplement Specchio), Il Manifesto, and Famiglia Cristiana. In 2007 he was head organizer of the ‘Vignerons d’Europe’ event in Montpellier, France, where 600 winegrowers from all over Europe met to talk and swap ideas about the problems and prospects of their sector. In the wake of this important experience, the following year, he and a group of winegrowers founded Federazione Italiana Vignaioli Indipendenti (FIVI) and he became the association’s secretary general.

Giuseppe Leonardo LoCascio is the Owner/Managing Director of Giuseppe LoCascio – Selezioni Varietali, and an Expert in Fine Wine Brand Management and Import/Distribution Strategies. He is one of the few US-based Italian Wine Ambassadors of the Vinitaly International Academy program. In January 2017 Giuseppe founded his own consulting company and import agency, based in New York City. As an agent, Giuseppe serves 12 US markets with a selection of high quality Italian wineries. In August 2016 Giuseppe became the Vice President of Portfolio Management for Leonardo LoCascio Selections, the Italian Wine Imports Division of The Winebow Group. Prior to this position, Giuseppe worked as the Director of Brand Management for Italy and Austria at The Winebow Group, as National Brand Manager for the Allegrini Group, and as Sales Manager for New York City and Westchester County. During his career in the wine industry, Giuseppe has developed new sales analysis techniques particularly suited to high quality wines. He believes that fine wine marketing is very similar to fashion and design marketing, with relevant intangible components coming into play when consumers make their purchasing decisions.
