Hi from your personal Sommelier in Venice! Today let’s taste a 100% Carmenere: this grape was for a long time confused with Merlot in Chile and Cabernet Franc in Italy but in 1994 some DNA tests found that this grape has its own identity and peculiarities. The area is not far from Vicenza city, and wine has the DOC “Colli Berici”.
The nose is blueberries and green pepper that reminds me an erbaceous note; the purple colour gives an idea of its intensity.
The winemaker use barriques for 12 months: 20% are new barriques, 80% not new. Tannins are very well balanced.
