Is there a city that is not beautiful in Italy? In the Tuscany region of the picturesque Italia, Florence is as good as it gets. We take a road trip up from Rome to tour this fantastic city (still collecting speeding tickets from that trip, didn’t even know that economy Fiat could go fast enough to get tickets), park in a New York City – priced garage and then tour around, starting with the Ponte Vecchio – the Old Bridge of Florence.
From there we head to the Piazza della Repubblica where there are some really great street performers (love that vibe in the Italian cities!) and an antique carousel in the square.
We also head to the Piazza della Signoria where the statue of David stands in all his glory and the fountain of Neptune, which is just awesome. Love the vibe in this piazza.
The main attraction is the Piazza del Duomo and the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, we tour the square, stop for a snack, and then take you inside this fantastic masterpiece of a cathedral that took two hundred years to build, or as I point out in the video – about as long as it’s been since the Mets last won a world series.
In the end, as always, we stop for some great food – this time a grilled meat and fresh cheese platter. Ah yeah, Italia. Ah yeah.
