This video was created for my Colleagues to help them recognize varied Dining Textures prior to serving Guests their meals within Day Habilitation Programs. Foods and Liquids must be consistent with both the MD orders and the dining protocols and served by caregivers who have additional training on the individual’s specific dining needs including but not limited to: meal preparation, set-up, level of assistance, and adaptive strategies to help maximize the individual’s level of independence during feeding and to teach safe dining habits. Please note: puree foods are not pasty or thick and pudding thick liquid must drop off the spoon in globs -not shown in video as the pudding had been refrigerated prior. Also, individuals with MD orders for thickened liquids can never have Italian Ice since this melts to a thin liquid once in the mouth. Foods like ice cream and Jell-o can also cause additional swallowing problems depending upon how quickly one can swallow. Therefore, they should be avoided unless otherwise specified.
